I searched, but did not find specifics regarding disassembly and whining, so here goes.

Over the winter, I took apart the alternator to paint the halves. After carefully putting it back together, I now have a key on buzzing coming for the speakers. Could this buzzing sound be caused by it being put together “wrong?â€Â

I took pictures and assembled it as it came apart, but cannot figure out why this would be happening. The wiring connectors seemed fine during the assembly process, so when I get time, I will re-check them. The alt. was fine prior to disassembly.

Thanks,

Re: 95GT alternator whine

It was very easy to take it apart.

But, does anyone know if it's possible to put it back together wrong? I have a very annoying,
big whine with the key on but engine not running.

when the engine is not running you have a wine?
could be the suppresor (i can't remember the name) but there's a specific part in there to stop it. i don't know if it would do the same thing not running

A small cylindrical thing (looks like a big resistor) with a wire attached to it. I think.

I had a few minutes last night to look at it and found that this screw was loose.

If you look at the regulator itself, it says "ground here to test." With that screw being loose,
could it cause radio interferance with the key forward, but not on?

so far, I have narrowed it down to what things it is not -
*The alternator is out of the car
*The radio supression capacitor has no other wires touching it
* I unhooked the my amp power cable from the battery

The buzzing noise is still there with the key on, but not running?????
