This morning I went to remove the axle bearings because they were making noise. I pulled the passenger side axle and noticed the bearing starting to wear into the axle. Now my question is should I replace the axle? What are my options to chose if I do replace it? Which brands and websites/auto parts stores sell good ones?

The driver side axle looks good. I’m just going to replace the bearing and seal while it’s out.

While I’m there I’m going in with 3” arp studs and 3/4” wheel spacers.

Also how hard would it be to transfer the reluctor ring over to the new axle? B136AEFD-AFC1-4710-AE8B-0E26DFDDDF77.jpegA3A6E129-C5E1-4647-9DD1-64B19DC8B5D8.jpeg

Also replace the bearings and seals and heat the abs rings up to remove and install if you go that rout

I saw the price on the lmr ones. The thing is they don’t come with the reluctor ring. I don’t have a press to replace the ring. How much of a pain in the ass is it to transfer them over?

If the heating isn't enough to get the tone rings off and you need to persuade them, only use a brass punch and hammer as the softer brass won't harm it. And only use them against the inside diameter and never the outer ring. I had to do this for the rings on my IRS halfshafts recently. You just go slow and tap on opposite sides for every other strike. Eventually they'll inch closer to the ends.

I would not recommend a hammer or punch
Tilt the axels upside down with heat to fall off
Gently use a 2x4 wiggling it off if it sticks

I have had them break just tapping on them

You can use a bearing splitter to remove the tone ring from the axle shaft and a piece of pipe with an inside diameter larger than the axle shaft diameter. You should be able to borrow a bearing splitter from one of the name brand auto parts store. If you cannot borrow a splitter, a replacement tone ring is cheaper than buying a bearing splitter. Use the pipe to install the tone ring on the axle shaft. Below is a link to give you an idea what a bearing splitter looks like.

I’m doing this plus heating them up to take them off. Got them off but I have to go to practice. I’ll install them some other day. 0905695E-00F3-43AC-ACEE-2FC1D5DA3274.jpeg
