I have Flowmaster 40's and added Magnaflow X pipe (offf road), and couldn't deal with the sound (tinny resonation). I am considering H pipe (offroad)now - BBK 1566, but don't want to go down another wrong road. Any 96-98 Cobras out there with the 40's and H pipe? Exhaust clips? Recomendations?

Thanks -
Steve

if you dont like a raspy exhaust note, i suggest a straight through style muffler like borla S-type, magnaflow magnapack, or SSS Adrenaline.

What do you mean by tiny resonation? Could you post a video. I have the magnaflow off road x pipe with the stock catback and it's very raspy but I'm dealing with it until I feel like shelling out the dough for the magnapacks catback.

The bbk O/R H pipe should sound good with flows. It's going to be loud and drone at some speeds. Flows just drone but they do sound pretty good.

I had the x pipe running w/stock mufflers and actually liked the sound i got,but once added the flowmaster 40's, it really woke it up! Just too much "noise" in my opinion. If I were still in my 20's, i may have loved it...

I did some research on BBK's website and they state: "We have noticed over the years that Flowmaster muffler systems when teamed up with our off road X-pipes, can work together to create an exhaust note that not every enthusiast will appreciate...BBK recommends a muffler system that is a direct-flow type, similar to a Magnaflow or perhaps a Dynomax, should the Flowmaster system not work for you.

I like the flowmasters - don't mind the drone too much. I had the flowmasters and an h pipe on my 89 and 90 GTs and loved the sound. I like the growly, throaty sound, but with the x pipe, it was in my opinion chaotic, metal banging around at 2k-3k rpms and just way to much for me.

I just want to see if anyone can advise on whether i would experience the same or similar with an h pipe combination.

Thanks!

All these examples have x-pipes:
Flowmaster 10's are almost straight through-

I recommend the BORLA XR-1 mufflers:

Knee deep in the water some where
In all the stangs Ive had I have never run flows. Most were BBK h pipes with Mac cat back and with tail pipes I dont remember a drone. They were loud as hell though, used to get stopped at least 3 or 4 times a month by cops around here. Only had one citation and it was for faulty emmisions equipment(no cats)even though the cop never looked under the car.

Ive always thought the straight thru mufflers to be more raspy than chambered mufflers, h pipe will make it more throaty, never heard 40 series flows sound what id call raspy.
