I believe they generally dyno at 250 when completely stock and in good condition.

98 was the strongest ( around 270 ) the earlier years were a tad less ( 250-260)

Why is this? I'm not extremely familiar with the changes made for 1998 other than the IMRC material change (which I probably remember incorrectly...)

Thanks,

-Dan.

Im not exactly sure, I remember reading in MM&FF that it had to do with Ford's development of the 4valve motor. The more time that passed the stronger the engines became :dunno: I think the tune has something to do with it

I have a 97' cobra as well and this is something that has always bothered me. I think the question we should be asking is where that power loss is coming from. Why are we having such an issue getting the power to the ground. I read in MM&FF that some dude regained about 19% of the power lost to the wheels by tweaking the suspension. Just goes to show you can be producing 1000HP, but without getting it to the ground it's a waste. I guess we should all be looking at throwing on sub-frames and adjustable uppers and lowers as well as the other standard bolt on stuff.

So maybe its not really due to mechanical changes, but mostly the tuning? I'd believe that.

Thanks!

I made 245rwhp and 255rwtq on a superflow (259.9rwhp dynojet comparison) with a stock mark8 DOHC w/ `96 cobra intake/tb/exhaust manifolds and IMRC deletes.

I had a bad exhaust leak from the passenger header gasket at the flange to the H-pipe, a CEL illuminated for system rich and PO301 (missfire cyl 1), BBK fenderwell intake with K&N, stock air tube after the stock mark8 MAF, BBK 2.5" catted h-pipe and flowmasters welded into the stock catback, so pretty much stock besides the IMRC deletes that I made.
