Yup no performance gains but it reduces weight and makes the engine look better.

Removing it makes no sense. It reduces the value of your car significantly, and has no adverse effect on performance. Shaving 40 pounds of A/C stuff off of a streetcar isn't going to make much difference in performance - and there are other ways to save weight.

Keep it, get it fixed, and enjoy your frosty cold comfort.

Paul.

K thanks y'all I think ill fix it. I don't have a tab on the valve on the driver side could that be why it is leaking and 1 of the clamps were the hoses connect has a little bit of corrosion on it

Bingo.

Lots of "kids" remove their A/C and whore out their cars for no reason. It's dumb. Don't do it.

I agree, fix it and enjoy having it in there.

Waaaay back when, I removed it from my IROC thinking I was saving weight and getting more power. Worst thing I did to that car... Not only did it not help me at all at the track (or on the road) but I was miserable in the summer having a black non T-Top car and no A/C.

I love the fact that my '98 has working A/C. I drive highway every day to work, and it's very nice to be comfortable AND have the windows up so I can hear my radio. Plus, for highway driving, you actually SAVE gas by running the A/C vs. having the windows open. Less drag on the car more than makes up for the slight power loss from the compressor running.

Keep A/C, fix it, be cool.

Depends on where you live. Its not "dumb" if its something you want to do to your car. Might be dumb the them but it might not be dumb to you. Not everyone lives where its hot all the time. IMO its worth it just for cleaning up all the crap around the engine bay and around the spark plugs making changing them much more easy. When I did the plugs a few months ago I was swearing the whole time b/c of the major PITA it was working around all that stupid crap and kept thinking of how I cant wait to pull all this crap out......now on monday all that stupid crap is going to be coming out. Cant wait to get rid of the AC I never use it and it does not get hot enough long enough her to justify having it anyway. Unless your just a total pussy. Im not selling the car at anytime, the resale value means nothing to me

a/c is in the way of the spark plugs?

my car has a/c, power steering, a power pipe and huge discharge tube / blower brackets that are in the way on # 1,2,3,4 and i can still have all the plugs changed in less then 20 min, which includes gapping them.

yay golf clap for you. When I do it its always in the way, the AC lines on the drivers side just make all the angles w/ a ratchet off just enough to make it a PITA, about the only plugs its not a issue on is #8 but thats a whole different ball of wax as far as being a PITA to get to. I dont have little squirrel hands so maybe its just more of an issue for me :dontknow:

Either way all that useless crap is coming out in a few days and being sold.

i pulled my AC out, it cleans the engine bay up nicely, that and getting rid of the smog crap. I'll admit in the summer its kinda uncomfortable, but the 55mph a/c works good enough for me. It's bad in the rain and at idle though. I'm glad I removed it for the most part.

The way I see it is that I didnt get a Mustang so that I could drive around when its nice out w/ the windows up. The whole AC Debate comes down to where you live for if its a good idea to remove it or not or how well you deal with heat. Everyone is different and everyone lives in different areas. I have AC in my ranger but rarely use it and when I do it has to be really hot like in the 90's and oppressive humidity. I never used it in the mustang and when the AC was discharged when the cam swap was done It gave me more reason to remove the whole thing. When I get the Mustang back later today Im going to start on getting all of it removed.

Like stated before, it really depends on where you live and how you feel about it. I live in south Texas and I will NEVER delete my a/c. 100+ degree weather mixed with ridiculous humidity makes a/c mandatory.

You know, it's kinda funny. I've lived in pretty much every part of the U.S. and parts of Canada, and I still have the most trouble adapting to Iowa summers... The humidity coupled with the completely random changes in temperature from hour to hour make the hot days seem twice as hot, and the cold winters seem almost unbearable...
