When i turn the a/c on the compressor will kick on for a couple seconds then stop, kick on a bit then stop. Ive heard something about a cycling switch but not sure where it is or what it does. When i hook the guage up while the car is running the pressure shoots up to full when the compressor kicks on but goes down when it kicks off. I need some help. Its hot as balls.

the guage says its overfilled when i hook it up. why would the compressor not stay on?

What does the guage say when the compressor is running? that's the reading you should be looking at.
It's cycling because your low on freon. and the system will only take freon when the comp is running.

Not if it's blowing hot air out it's not normal. They can cycle but it's usually not very frequent. You have a cheap do it yourself gauge, it's only going to show you a reading when the compressor is turning. If you have a cycling compressor, warm air coming out of your vents, you have low freon, put a can of 134 in and be done with it.

I havent watched it but for maybe a minute after i filled it and the compressor ran steady. I was satisfied after that, so satisfied that i drove down the road with the hood not latched all the way. Thanks goodness it didnt blow up on me.
