Well long story short i sold my pushrod powered 95 mustang and I am looking to replace it with a mod motor sn95. Ive been looking around for any pros and cons between years 96-98. My first question would be if there are any changes made to the motor or the car itself between 96-98? What is the best year to purchase? What problems do these motors usually have after time? I've read somewhere about these motors spitting out spark plugs or something can someone explain what that is and how it happens? These questions might be noob material but I have never had or messed with a mod motor mustang.

4v's don't tend to spit out plugs, its mostly the 2vplan that do it. And pretty much the only 4v's that do it is the 03-04s.. They call 98 the bastard year because it has a weird fuel system that isn't return style and it has a tank similar to 99+ mustangs. That's probably the biggest difference between the two. Also, 96s had a cooling issue and they have different radiator mounts that 97+. But most of the 96sbshould have been fixed by now.

Make sure the plastic manifold has metal crossover tube behind the alternator. I bought mine low mileage at the time, and it was never replaced. Blew up on first couple days of ownership, well cracked and coolant got everywhere. Other than that there are no major things wrong with these body styles. Stock they go forever....

Don't be afraid of the 98's, they just use a different fuel pump and they have the best of the NPI cylinder heads if you want to stay stock. If you take care of the car these modulars will run smooth for a long time. I have never had a major issue with mine in 15 years.

The best year is 97 as they have the better radiator issue and the better IMRC's that change a bit in 98... Parts are expensive should a rebuild become warranted. Those IMRC's are none to stick in many cases, replacement is tedious and parts are not the easiest to locate. A couple of companies make delete kits as well. I love the body style but prefer the non IMRC 99-01 motor. Ultimate SN95 with a Aluminator long block with a Vortech & FMIC for me.
