best place is to remove the stock rubber hood bumpers and replace them with pins. Thats what I did. I run hood "locks" on mine as well as the factory latch. I've see the locks by themselves fail and ruin a man's day. I went with the locks for the added insurance to the stock latch as well as the sleekness of'em. Installing them is nerve racking. What I'd do is get some paint, take the bumpers and run them up as high as they'll go. Put a blob of paint on each one, close the hood. Open the hood. now the bottom of the hood is marked in a round about area. When you punch the holes, remember to make them bigger than the pin size themselves. Install the pins. Remember also that your plates will cover up the oversize hole so don't worry if you don't get it perfect. They're going to need some "massaging." Once you can open and close the hood without binding on the pins, close the hood. Place the plates over the pins. TAPE THE PLATES DOWN. Adjust the heights of each pin so that they pin holds the hood down snugly but not so tight that the hood is forced down and your hood-to-fender gap is off. Once you've got your pin height set and tight. Double check EVERYTHING. The pins go smoothly through the plate holes and don't get hung up on them. Once that is set, secure your plates down with the provided screws. you're done! Have a beer.

I really like the billet Shelby hood pins...they even make them in black but they say Shelby on those... Check them out on the Shelby site...

ps...not the SS ones, the billet ones

its a good idea with a after market hood to have hood pins even if you are still running the latch. my buddys car his hood flew up twice on him with the latch at once was with a stock hood. so i dont think i will ever run a car without them just my .02 :new_year:

Not for nothin but if your hood has a metal latch you don't need hood pins, just a thought.

BULLSHIT. Even the BEST aftermarket hood manufacturers will reccomend hoods if you plan on running your car over a certain speed...

Thats because they want to cover their ass. Stock Cobra R hoods work perfectly fine without hood pins even at high speeds. I believe every HO Fibertrend hoods is made with a steel latch for that reason. Hoods made with fiberglass latches are obviously going to rip out...

And doing something just because it "looks cool" is a ricer statement :santa_smiley:

ANYTHING can happen. That metal plate can rip out of the fiberglass as well. Trust me. I'm an aerospace structural mechanic. I repair fiberglass for a living. It CAN happen. You don't know that if the guy making that hood wasn't having a good day that day or not. My steeda hood has a big ole plate in it around the latch but I'll be damned if they STILL didn't reccomend running pins on it. I've got too much time and money in my car to NOT put a $50 set of hood pins in when it could cost me the 20+k I've spent on the car if I don't. That was an easy decision to make.

When you have a car capable of reaching dangerous speeds, you'll understand.... ;) jk

I agree i have been running my hood for a year without pins and it came up one but luckly the latch caught it...The pins were one of my "winter mods" and now that they are in I feel alot safier that they are in now.

Heh, very good points. It does make sense to use hood pins if you're worried about it, I planned on it until i ended up buying a Ford hood. Ford held HO Fibertrends to a lot tighter tolerances with the hoods they made for them so I don't worry about it flying up on me, but yes it could happen. I know my car isn't too quick yet but the car it came off of did over 120 multiple times without problems.
