I thought I would post this up for you guys. My dad bought a manual v6 red '97 vert new in 1997 as a toy. He still owns it and as it sits it has only 57,000 miles on it. The only things that have every been replaced are the tires, fluids, and a tie rod end. Just this past week the factory original battery is starting to die. It barely starts the car. Pretty amazing that a battery would last this long.

North Jersey, Mahwah. I had the car out yesterday just as it started to snow in 29* temps. The car just barely started.

in phoenix you were lucky to get 2-3 yrs out of one, went through 4 in the 10 yrs I was there. The heat in the summer just cooks them and in a matter of one summer with no use it will go dead..

Im trying to get some pictures of the car but photobucket doesnt seem to be loading for me right now. It looks just like the on in the 97 brochure except it has the grey/black interior.

That's nuts haha. My car eats a battery every year because it's parked in the winter. So it's 35*C+ in the summer when driven, and stored all winter with temps dipping to -45*C with windchill, we just had straight up -32*C yesterday morning, no wind chill. I'm expecting a dead battery in the spring, Costco batteries FTW!! Exchange them every year ;).

15 years is pretty damn impressive

Daily driver batteries will never last as long since they are constantly exposed to hot/cold changes. Since my car sits in a temp controlled garage on a battery tender the majority of it's life (which I assume your dad's does also judging from the miles) batteries seem to last much longer, the one in there now was in the car when I bought it in 2008 and is just starting to show signs of dying. Too bad it doesn't have a date code sticker on it so I can tell when it was made.

I had an Interstate that died on an s-10 just last week. Tag on it said July of '05 so I was impressed with it. It took a couple of months for it to finally kill over, every crank was worse than the last. But 15 years, my hat is off to you man. That is amazing!

The battery never saw a tender it was just driven whenever he felt like it. It is garaged normally in an attached non-heated garage. Up until about 3 years ago the car had 36,000 miles on it.

That's ridiculous.

My mom bought a '00 Tundra brand new and she only recently replaced the factory battery like in 2010.

I have a battery tender on my duralast red top, how long should that last with summers reaching 100+ and getting to as cold as 9 out???

Ah, good ol' Mahwah. Please tell me you've been to the Chicken and Rib Crib on Franklin Tpk at least once in your life. I live a stone's throw away in Orange County, NY.

I've never heard of an original battery lasting that long. Better contact the Guinness Book of World Records... no sarcasm intended, that is amazing.

The car is in fantastic shape, clean SN's are getting harder to come by these days.
