I have a chance to get a aftermarket hood for my factory hood. The difference is that the aftermarket is fiberglass compared to me steel hood. Anything to be worried about? Do I need hood pins? Please help. Good ideal to swap or not?

I just bought a 96-98 Cobra hood for my upgrade. I hear with any aftermarket hood, you need to use hood pins!! Sorry, this is all I know about this swap. Good luck on your search, though!

its lighter, usually looks better as they are usually aftermarket designs IE Cobra R etc. What kind of hood is it, CHEAP fibreglass hoods are just that CHEAP, they wont fit well, will be unfinished, latches will be bad which will cause them to possibly fly up on you.

hood pins are up to you, I have a hood that isnt the best but it also isnt cheap junk and I have been lucky with no pins, lots use them though.

I have a 3" Cobra R with no pins (Its kinda uneven in the front a little bit, so pins may help that idk... might get pins in the future)

Pins are a good idea if you do over 100 mph. its more of a safety issue, as a cracked windshield and messed up roof is not fun.

I bought a cervinis cowl hood twice. I guess you could call this a warning but I bought hood from cervinis that they said would be a 100% perfect fit.
HA! they were wrong. I ended up selling the first one and the second hood would not stay latched. I already had plans to put hood pins on but from my personal experience I would stay away from cervinis fiberglass made hoods.

the factory hoods are fiberglass btw. Try to get a hood with a steel latch, if you do hood pins should not be needed.
