I was typing about in my other thread, wanted to have it all here. So I will remember where I'm @. I had my Simco gauges added about 5 days ago. Even though it has nothing to do with the odometer & trip deal, they both no longer work! My mechanic said when he put the clear cover on it, it did not fit flush. He'd screw in the R side & the L would rise, etc. He wonders if it maybe pressed or pulled on the odometer? I showed him that speedo gear, he has no idea. He says he never messed with them while adding the new. I had him add my old gauges, thinking it was in a bind. Still don't work, though. I was hoping 1 of you maybe knew my prob. Since the trip is not working too, does that mean I need to order 2 of those gears? Maybe it works of the same one? I hate driving my car when it's not working. I want to drive it again! Thanks in advance!!

Re: My odometer is not working!

The only thing that has me wondering is it worked just fine up until he started changing the overlay things. He never even touched the odometer. He did say he had a press it pretty tight to get that one on good. Other than that, nothing. How do I find out which one maybe needs replaced? Thanks a lot!!

If your cruise control is working then the gear on the speed sensor on the trans is OK. Most likely it's the gear on the back of the cluster.

Re: My odometer is not working!

I did not know to do that, I don't think. Someone gave me a link on Stangnet, I think, of how to do the install. I was just going to print that out & hand it & the gear to my mechanic. I'm not smart enough to even consider doing this myself!! I'm smart enough to know I'd make this a lot harder than it should be!

Can you go more into that lithium grease stuff? If you can, type me something so I can print this off also & give to him. Thanks! Will he have lithium grease? He mainly an exhaust guy.

He is putting on BBK LT's on my friend's 03 Cobra right now! That is being kind of a bitch to do!!

Re: My odometer is not working!

your mech should know what that grease is. basically it's just a light grade grease for low temp stuff. he could probably use Vasoline too.

Re: My odometer is not working!

I'll let my mechanic do it now. I was running 1 more errand & noticed something way wrong! I felt it through my steering wheel. It felt like my RH front tire was fixing to fall off. I stopped right where I was @. I had my mother come up to get me. I had her pull up just a little bit to make sure it was doing what I thought it was! It was! I right away went & talked with my mechanic. I didn't really look @ it, too much. He got there & 3 of my 5 lug nuts broke off! 1 just unscrewed, looked like. I only had 1 on it. He tightened that up as tight as he could & I limped it to his shop. About 5 or 6 blocks.

He can't get to it until Monday, so I'll just have him do the gear as well. I made him a note to add my lithium grease to the gear. Thanks!!

Re: Now my lugs broke off!!

What do you call those things? I saw on 50resto, a wheel stud. It says rear after it. In the description, it does not say anything about where they go. Bobby said he would get them @ the auto parts store in town, still like to @ least find them. Thanks!!

Re: Now my lugs broke off!!

yes they are called studs. You can to ANY auto parts store and just go up to the parts counter tell them year, make , model and that u need 5 front wheel studs and they just hammer into your spindle. Your spindle on the front is where your ball joints, tie rod ends, brakes and wheel all mount to. You can even just slide all the new ones in, screw on your lug nuts and tighten until the studs pop through the spindle. Very easy fix. You need to go buy a hane's manuel and start workin on that puppy yourself. You've been spending GOBS of money on that sucker when you could easily do some of that stuff for pennies on the dollar and a few hand tools. You'll never learn until you dive in there and start getting dirty.

Re: Now my lugs broke off!!

I think you missed the part where I said I am about as dumb as you can be! I can barely work a screwdriver these days. I don't even consider doing this myself these days. It is easier just to pay to have this stuff done. I lost every memory about working on car type stuff!! Thanks though

I will never learn because my stupid brain forgets stuff as soon as I learn it. I've kinda lost the will to learn new things now.

Re: Now my lugs broke off!!

It's all fixed, for now! I had my old chrome lug nuts. Bobby painted the 5 today black. I was going to order new black ones. I never thought he could do that. He also got the speedo gear replaced. He put my old one in the baggie the new one came in. It was in a lot of pieces.
