So today while driving down the highway with the windows down in 4th @ 3000rpms I was driving at a steady 70mph, I went to go around a car in front of me so I got on the accelerator and when I got on it pretty good I heard a slight rattle from the transmission area I believe. When the car is at idle there is absolutely 0 sound coming from the tranny so I figure it can't be the throw out bearing because well we all know my last Mustang had a bad TOB.
Anyways what's y'all's opinion?
Only 85,300 miles on the car.
EDIT: Maybe it could have to do with my Cat's?

hmmm, no chance it could have be resonance from exhaust or something like that?

front of trans or rear? grinding, popping or rattle? when did it stop like right when you got off the throttle or did it continue?

And it only happens if I'm driving at normal speeds then just get into the accelerator almost flooring it will make that sound but as soon as I let off the gas it's fine..
Now if I drive normally and let say just slowly speed up like a normal person would do there's no sound at all.
Heck even if I leave from a light and mash the accelerator it won't do it then.

I'd lift the car up and check to make sure the tranny mount isn't shot or loose, could also be a u-joint going bad

Pinging?

Sounds like a bunch of ball bearings being tossed on sheetmetal? Try to tank up with some super unleaded and see if it goes away.

Yeah if I dont run 89-93 my car pings under WOT so you may want to try that. When mine would do it it sounded like it was coming from right behind the dash

There are a bunch of reasons your car could be doing this. Mostly timing/heat related if you're all stock. #1 make sure plugs and ignition system is 100%. Check timing as well, start with 10* BTDC, then go higher by 2* and see if it comes back. I've been able to run 14-16* without issues, but once you add heat into the mix with high IAT temps or hot oil in the combustion chamber the likelihood of pinging increases.

He's got a 4.6 so he can't just adjust timing by turning the dizzy. =/

Check your plugs and wires, realistically, change them, it won't hurt. Probably time for them. Do a coolant flush too.

Alright so on my way to return a game to the video store today I noticed that it doesn't make the sound right after it's been sitting all night but once it warms up it will do it.

Sorry, I thought you had a 95.

Yea, heat. My wife's 6.8l Excursion pings a little too at high revs and WOT. It does go away with higher octane fuel.

Well guys I put 93 in her today and drove down the freeway with the window down next to the median wall so I could hear every sound coming from the car. I shifted down to 4th opened her up and VIOLA! No more rattle!!
