Another Tire Thread that is not mine

This is a co workers tire from work. I said it was slashed, at work the higher ups said it was a blow out. I think they are trying to cover something up b/c there are camera's in the parking lot also how are you going to have a blow out with it sitting in the parking lot and with it being on the sidewall too. Looks just like someone stuck a knife in the side of the sidewall and cut it. What do you guys think?

slashed all day everyday of the week. If it was the blow out why isn't it dry rotted around the side wall? A nice makes that type of pattern because a tire is not easy to cut...

Not completely look at the ring it that follows it around on each side... it appears that it was run low on air also. It could just be a weak point in the sidewall.

Slices are usually much cleaner then that, atleast the ones I have done :glasses6:

wouldnt it depend on what it was cut with for how clean the slice would look?

If it was done with a serrated blade it still would be cleaner of a slice i think.

X2. Did your coworker drive on the tire underinflated? that is what the "ring" indicates. although, that center section of the slice looks pretty straight. The tire could have been poked in that center area, but not enough to let ALL the air out right then, then the owner doesn't notice,
drives a little, then the sidewall can't handle it anymore and gives out completely. Thats just my theory.

That was probably it then. It was run low which made the sidewall weak and then was inflated and ran which caused the weak spot to blow.

It is kind of weird that they won't show your co-worker the video if there is one. Until the video shows otherwise I say it got slashed, although I will admit that the ends of the cut are a bit odd looking, I've had 2 slashed tires before and they looked very similar.

The sidewall belt could have easily broken. Early signs are a "bubble" in the sidewall. If the tire was run low on pressure, the bubble could have been hardly noticeable. At this point, the tire is prone to blow at anytime. Especially after it has been aired up (topped off). The aftermath will look just like that. There won't be much dust unless the tire was being run at speed. If this happened while rolling through the parking lot, that explains the lack of dust/rubber debris. I'd rule out someone slashing the tire if there is no witness or hard evidence pertaining to vandalism. Although the video surveillance tape would tell the whole story!
