I ran a custom-h with 2 cats for quite some time before I put on my o/r prochamber. It wasn't all that loud though sounded nice.....and passed inspection which was the best part about it :)

Hey VF, I have a Prochamber, and had to put on cats.
Put in Magnaflow high-flow cats. Cats will make the sound a little mellower. these did just a bit.
and they really are high flow, where the pipe going into the cat is tapered on the inside, not just a pipe stubbed through the hole and welded off.

you can have them welded in. Cost me 380 bucks (I think)

Very nice, even though i'm cheap and 380 makes me cringe lol. But i want to keep the power the mid pipe gives but i want it to be mellower and quiet... so i'm taking off these mac cat backs and putting the stock ones back on lol. I think it should sound fine and all, hopefully it won't leave the burnt fuel residue on the back bumper ya know.

Exhaust soot/fuel residue is definately caused by your off road setup. Don't take the catback off! Just goto a reputable muffler shop and have some high flow cats welded in like these guys said. It not only will clear your rear bumper up, but it will also bring your exhaust note down to the tone you're looking for. I would purchase the cats, make the car smog legal, and def leave the catback on. It actually helps hp/tq on our modulars. U can get high flow cats from mustangs unlimited, jegs, summit for dirt cheap. They don't have to be magnaflows. Have a shop weld them in for around 50-60 bucks. It's a straight cut and weld, no pipe bending needed. I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone to trade straight up for a catted mid pipe. They bring high dollar. Check prices on cats and strongly consider a custom catted/prochamber setup. Bet it would sound pure sex with your catback system.

naw, i'll probably buy them new. that way i know they are good. But dal, your still wiping that stuff off and you have cats?

I just pulled out my stock exaust the other day to clean it up a little and check some stuff out. Well the pipes were on the car for around 60/70k and the tips had no soot in them what so ever. I could still see the blue painted lines inside where the steel was rolled in 98. I want this thing burning that clean again. Know what i Mean. I'm also thinking a fiberglass style muffler like stock would catch more than a chambered like mine lol. I've heard a mach 1 with a catted prochamber and stock cat back and it sounded sex under WOT and quiet and reserved at idle and cruise... just getting old and tired of that drone on the highway. I remember getting better MPG with the stock mid and catback also. Wonder if cats help gas milage out though?

It probably burned that clean stock because you had 6 cats. Adding 2 high flow cats is not going to make it the same as stock.

Oh, I ran catless for a few years... I've just had the jax link saussage of a mid pipe sitting in my garage.
Roger that, I did it BC they failed me on my IM and I pretty much had to. I don't mind it either, not as sinky!

Good info from 96s281 :santa_afro:
