well, i can get a v6 rear bumper for pretty much nothing (stock one is cracked) and since i'm repainting next summer, i'd like to see how a shaved bumper would look on our cars. i've seen a shaved bumper on a new edge, just not on a 94-98. I am also going for a cobra front bumper so i dont want the rear to just say "mustang" and it pretty much be a cobra clone. I thought i'd look pretty cool shaving the "mustang" out of the rear though, so please if anyone has any pics!!!
also, if you did the body work yourself, what did you use to fill in the lettering?

they sell already "shaved" rear bumpers... certifit has them... and they are dirt cheap for most parts.

how ever, most people use bondo, or fiber glass, but some people have used some plastic filler, i think jb weld makes a good plastic filler product for this particular job.

go for it, shaved bumpers look good on the 94-98 cars.

I was thinking about working out the license plate portion of the front GT bumper when I get mine repainted.
But because it's such a large area I was going to try to heat it up from the inside and push it out to close to flush then use a skim coat of filler to finish it off.
If your doing the rear bumper, you might try to do the same thing because it'll crack out over time because or the different materials used. You might get away with it by usuing a urathane based filler but it's still a big glob to fill those letters.

You have to download the catalog... Or go to your local certifit and ask for a real catalog...

I downloaded the catalog and didn't see anything about it.
Just said...
-mustang bumper without cobra option
-mustang bumper with gt option
-mustang bumper with cobra option

That's pretty much all I saw. Maybe it was another company you saw?

no, those are it, they are all the same, and should be all blank... certifit can not put the word "mustang" or "cobra" on their bumpers, i believe thats copy right infrengment..

no company will reproduse parts with company logos, or they will get their asses sued... that is unless they have permission, which, im pretty sure ford will not do, just so they can sell you the real deal.

Oh, well i'll have to look into that.

but could you tell me why they charge more for gt/cobra bumpers over a base model v6 bumper then?
they're all the same except for the letters.

wow, i just looked at my catalog (fairly new.)

these used to be about 60 bucks or so... and not broken up into sub models...

it says that base/ cobra are 102.50 and gt is 144.50

this is weird... id assume that since they are catagorizing the base and cobra as the same bumper, it must be blank.. and why the gt is on its own, is beyond me... you guess is as good as mine, it used to be listed all as one bumper, and was blank.

94-95, the base V6 bumpers and Cobra bumpers were the same and just said "Mustang". Its pretty possible that that's what that is.

you have a point, but its listed as 94-98, and not broken down any further.

i bought one for my old 98... it was blank.. so, maybe they have permission to use the words now... idk. it has been a long time since i bought that bumper.

ya i finally found the catalog online, thanks! last year i thought the cobra bumper was a lot cheaper for some reason, i think i'll just go ahead and get the one that says "mustang" for ten dollars then next summer try to find a used cobra front or just maybe buy an abc front bumper with the lip.

bsn95w, when you bought one (if you remember) was there much work needing to be done to the bumper as far as prep work, or do they come primed and ready to paint? thanks again!

They come in bare plastic, all you need to do is take some 400 grit sand paper and just scuff it up, then spray on the paint... No need to primer, some primer will not stick to certain plastics.
