So as a few of you may know I bought the car to manual swap.
My last SN was a bolt on 5.4, and my t45 didn't care for either 5th or reverse..go figure.

Well a decision was made about the car when I realized what I yanked out of it.
Drag car.

Suddenly my automatic is looking promising.
I've still gotten 85% of the stuff for a manual swap.

So here goes...

Important or not...top speed? Yes
.I've been known on a quiet night to peg a speedometer..
Is a the 4r70w geared well enough for at least 150?
Assuming power and probably a 4.10 rear.
Stupid I know...But i fully digress to burying a needle once in a blue moon.
Safety and such aside...i am well aware..Germany spoiled me.

My immature question aside...let's talk business.
Let's keep it stock stall for now..

I'm assuming J Mod is high on the list...along with some fresh fluid and attention.
The trans will hold 400tq?
Even with the automatic power loss..I figure a spray of nitrous can still make good torque.

Secondly...adding a secondary cooler, yay or nay?
Not going to lie...I upshift 98% of the time.
Holding til around 2500...stock gearing..
But I don't downshift, and only go to 1 at a dead stop.
But it was meant to be yanked.

Now if memory serves, an auto is a prime drag machine. Granted I said no stall...unless I keep it.
But the shock is generally less to the axles, it's rated for more power than a T45 anyway.
And I suppose PI swapped I may be able to get to 250hp/300tq...not that I'm gunning for numbers..
But I'm sure many would agree, it's nice to have a gaol, just because.

My plan assuming the auto stays..
Mac longtubes(hoping to offset the HP deficit of not going 5spd)

But I've been reading some bad things about nitrous and the t45.

So before I finalize a purchase.

I'm trying to get solid info from guys with autos.
So hopefully I'll get answers and advice.

It just hit me last night...I'm building a drag car...why not be consistent, and put the swap money, into power/suspension

But nothing is set.
Well, the car has a purpose, but now at the crunch time...I'm in crisis.

Let's bat this??

So the main points of concern in the 4r70w would be the torque converter, the j-mod, a sure cure kit from sonnax, and a hardened stub shaft. The transmission will hold up just fine but if you really push it then youll need to address these areas. The j-mod would be top of the list for me. Then second would be the converter, but while it was down I would do the internal repairs such as the sure cure kit and the stub shaft. The newer ones have a tendency to blow the snap ring groove off the forward drum but thats with the stamped drum. I think the older ones had a stronger drum that you wont have to worry about.

To top that all off, youll definitely want a tune, especially after the stall converter and the gears.

I've been all over asking questions about what to beef.

And if I go that route I will definitely address those issues.

But sadly I still want top end.
That seems to be the 5spds perk.
The extra hp will be wayside with the stall and such.
But if everything pans out.
I may be in Germany by the end of the year.
And going back over there means speed.

Just in the middle of the long application process.

But that's why I'm asking.
Because a week on the net, and I have no definite answers.

According to every calculator out there.
I'd have 153-162 depending on rpm and assumed 230rwhp at said rpm.

My apologies guys..I still like the occasional blast.
I don't go full into OD. I let off then slowly go back up around 1/2 or more but not WOT.
Not the best, but the lesser of two evils.

As for the snub and such.
Assuming parts and a cheap junkyard donor.
$1200 for a 500hp build.
I'd just need the parts and either mine or a viable core.
I've seen this places work at our track.
9 second cars and a few 10 second trucks.

The warranty is 3yrs
Dyno backed.
But I won't hit 500, so definetly looking to them if I keep it.

True.
Seeing as I read keisler may be out of business.
I ran one of theirs...amazing.

Guess I could buy a cheapo and rebuild it to hold 400.
Maybe it's winter making me lazy?

Haha

Why are you saying that top speed would be so different between the two? The auto and 5 speed have almost the same final drive ratio.

True, but you also get a full extra gear to accelerate with...unless my findings so far are wrong.
General consensus is 118-120 or so..in
That's atrocious. .....and I'm being childish.

My calculations run fine.
I believe third will peg around 110 with 4.10s.
With some flats and good tailwind haha I should still peg her.

Currently on hold...found coolant in my plug well.
#6
Little trace around the T stat housing area.
So ordering new intake and t stat gaskets.

Hoping that explains my popcorn idle and backfire from letting off the gas at throttle.

This engine is beginning to worry me...

Why wouldnt you go to 4th gear when trying to top them out?

Then, what does an extra gear in between matter when you are focusing on top speed where you would be in final drive?
