So I was driving and my o/d light started flashing. I went and got it checked and these are the codes it pulled up
p0708

From what I read its either a bad sensor or a bad transmission. anyone else have this problem?

Not sure. But if the trans was bad you'd know instantly. When the trans went in my brothers 91 foxbody, I barely got it to the mechanic. Car wouldn't start unless it was in neutral, and everytime I accelerated the car acted like it was in neutral, just revving. You could floor it and it would just make noise and go no where. Are you experiencing anything like these symptoms? If the cars running fine and the trans seems normal I think it could be a sensor, but if its acting like anything I wrote above then you have a major problem.

I can drive it and it only slips a little (as of right now.). I took it to a shop and they think its just a sensor.

It's your Range Sensor... Also known as the gear selector switch sensor. Some auto parts places will know what it is and some don't. Just tell them and explain what your wanting. I have had them go out on me as well. It's only like 2-10mm bolts. I had my local auto parts store argue with me that it wasn't what was wrong and I had to prove it to them.

Good Luck!

I have an OEM ford motorcraft sensor new in box...never used it but I did pay like 125 bucks for it.

I'll sell it to you for 75 shipped if you want it.

Auto parts stores are retarded...they may have it listed as a neutral safety switch... either way, there's a reason I got mine from motorcraft. Its common for those to go bad in the older cars.

thats because most of the idiots at the auto part stores only know what the computer screen tells them.

I am not sure where you are located but if you pull up oreily auto parts or any auto part stores, look up "neutral safety switch"..... They should list it then.

ok so I took it to a shop and had it replaced because I had to work. (a good shop from what I hear). he recommended that the trans fluid and filter should be changed. I told him to do it and replace the sensor. I get it back tonight and the light is still flashing and the transmission is smoking. I think the smoking is because a little trans fluid might have spilled out when they were refilling it and its just burning off, but i dont understand why the light is flashing again.

i was going to but i didnt think it would make it that far. I took it to rutland transmissions because its 3 miles from my house, and i needed it back today. i might end up taking it to chris and seeing what he says and if its bad parking it and buying another car.

as for wsm, i cant post on anyones forms so i made another account just to buy parts. Now i do (did) alot with Montgomery county mustangs, they have cruses or shows almost every week and they have a pretty good turn out, when people say they will show up they do. oh and free photo shoots by professionals =)

When I was a service advisor, a flashing O/D light almost always meant a $2000 repair order, and 20% for me.

How did you get the codes? I counted the flashes on mine but my car threw the same codes. How does your trans feel when driving it?

i took it to a transmission shop to get the codes read, and im not sure on how many flashes. It felt fine when driving home but before it was hard shifting, weird shifts, it would slip a little and gears would not engage. example park to reverse then reverse to drive.

Ok, well fom my experiences, that usually means that your trans is having a pump problem. The pumps in the trans has seals that sometimes can go bad. This will cause the problems that your explaining. Maybe cheaper to get another trans from a salvage yard. Around here you can get the for $300-500.
