I'm pushing towards the gears being 3.08's. The 96' and up have the 4R70W transmission. Every time I get under the car (which is all the time), I always forget to check my rear end for the ratio numbers. Everyone says these sn95's have the 2.73's in the automatics but after reviewing a chart, having 2.73's would SUCK. Based on the chart, 70mph will set me at 1700rpms with 2.73's and a tiny tad over 2,000 with 3.08's. I'm at 2,000 at 70mph.

You can also look at the sticker in the drivers side door jam and look up the axle code (providing it's still stock). 3.08s sound about right. Mine has 3.27s and I'm at 2K rpms at 65mph.

Nope. Coupe, in South Florida.

I babied the car.. Thing was gorgeous

Hmm weird. I guess the weight advantage and gears really help.

My 96 GT auto with just 3.73s went 14.5-14.6 at 96 MPH.

It was also a 248a car so I guess its lighter than your typical car

Also doesnt hurt that I run at cecil.

Also, 3.08s came standard in the auto cars I believe.

Yep. You're right. Inside the door it says under AXLE HZ. Z is for 3.08's. M is for 2.73. And E is for 3.27

I'm sure 2.73's would be more towards a 5 speed's stock ratio.

My best was a 14.5 @ 96mph with a 6500ft DA. Basically a 13.4-5 @ around 100mph anywhere else. Only mods was a CAI, full exhaust, 4.10's, and a tune.

Definitely hoping to be in the 14's next time I visit the track. I mean, when taking stuff out that was in there when I ran before, I should be. Would be happier if it was a solid 14. Not some 14.999 shit. Once I get to my transmission class in school I'll be putting 3.73's in. Not that I couldn't now but I'd rather know exactly what I'm doing instead of following a thread full of steps.

That's weird, when I ran my car bone stock 5 speed I pulled a 14.5 @ 97, 2.1 60ft. And autos where supposed to be a little bit quicker than that. Like 14.3's or something around there.

My God DA is a pain the ass

In an 04 GT, with just mufflers, and 4.30s, no tune. I ran a 13.9 @ 102

Not bad, good driving.

And the autos are slower in stock form....need some gears and a loose converter to wake them up.

My auto did run roughly the same as you did with 3.73 gears though.

14.5-14.6@96 mph with a 2.1 60 I believe

So here's the update.

2 months later and the only added modification was lowering the car 2 inches. I also took the toolbox out and sub. It was a little warmer then last time. Last time it was 55 degrees out. This time it was 78.

R/T... .378
60'... 2.144
330... 6.242
1/8... 9.577
MPH... 74.47
1000... 12.424
1/4... 14.825
MPH... 96.21

Did a few runs and they were all pretty similar. Slowest was 14.860.

Now I did do one run locking the torque converter. Holding the brake and giving it gas.. then letting off the brake. Put me in the 15.1 range. So yea, that doesn't work with my car. These runs are mainly holding the brake then mashing the gas when the light turns green.

I really don't see why people have such slow times with these automatic Mustangs. Seems like they're known to run high 15's. I'm running high 14's with just an X-pipe. I mean, I did see a huge difference after the X-pipe was installed and those 6 converters were gone. But almost a 1 second difference? Weird.

Not sure what you mean by locking the converter...sounds like you powerbraked it off the line?...thats not locking the converter.

Sounds right on to me, like I said before, mine with 3.73s did like 14.5 @ 96 mph which is right where you would be with 3.73s in your car I bet.

Yes, powerbraking. Basically brake torquing I guess you'd call it.

Gotcha, yea..a lot of guys have reported better results just stomping it without power braking when running a stock converter.

I guess it shocks it and lets it stall a little higher than when you power brake it.

A looser converter is the best mod you can do to these cars...its insane how it changes the whole car.
