Ball joint question, fair price?

Well, both of my lower ball joints are bad and my mustang shop quoted me $355 for parts and labor to replace them. I really dont trust anyone working on my car expect them.

I know you don't want to hear this, but it'd be a heck of a lot cheaper to do it yourself. It's not too bad of a job. Otherwise sounds a bit steep.

Do it yourself. Oreilly has a really nifty tool on their loaner tool program for pressing out the balljoints WITHOUT having to remove the A arm. Rent the tool (leave $$ deposit), buy the balljoints, press the old ones out, press the new ones in, return the tool, receieve your deposit back in full, voila. New balljoints that only cost you the price of the parts, a little of your time, and maybe some beer

my brother needs to replace the ones on his car but he couldn't find anyplace that rents the tool to press them so he went
to a shop and the quoted him 100 bucks per side

$100 to $125 max per side.. is an average price.. Thats with quality parts too! Most shops will use the lesser grade to cut cost..

But $355? they better be doing tie rods and alignment as well

No, thats an extra $79 i think, but i still have a warranty left on my alignment @ another shop.

And no @ the tie rods.

I believe I loaned the tool from Autozone when I did mine.

Save the coin and rent the tool like others suggest. Its work but the money saved is worth it.

here what you need to do, Buy the termy A-arms with the ball joints already on them.

its gonna be A LOT easier to replace an arm than to change the ballljoints for that price.

Another shop said everything is fine up front. Said the ball joints have very little play in them.


I hate not knowing what the problem is.

They screech when i turn the wheel.. He just told me its because they need oiling and thats it? Told me to get a needle gun and inject balljoint grease into the boot and it'll stop.

Thats it. Otherwise i have no other proof. '

I mean i forced the car on them and they couldve ripped me off and done all the work i said, but they kept checking and said nothing was wrong anywhere up front. I asked about tie rods, ball joins, struts, shocks... and they said everything was A-Okay, i know many shops wouldve jumped and replaced all that lol.

Are the arms easier and cheaper to install than just replacing the lower ball joints?
