Hello all. Been lurking on here for awhile. Lots of great info on here. My question is this. What's the best block for a build up? First off I plan on adding a Kenn Belle Flowzilla or Blowzilla, which ever one it is. (BIGGEST) I am going to get a 331 stroker kit with all forged internals. Plan on using Edelbrock or AFR 185 heads. And adding a shot of the juice isn't out of the question. Not sure if I should use the stock block though. I can get a new BOSS 302 block for $1500. Or should I stick with the stock block and girrdle it up? This will be a mostly street driven car. Maybe some autocross, VIR and the accasional let's see how much smoke these 315's can make. I will never take it to the strip.
Thanks

The earlier blocks, like 1968, are a little beefier than the newer blocks. You can still put in a retro-fit roller cam too.

when your talking about that kinda power, dont waste your time and money gambling on a stock block. the girdle isnt going to save you. and you can get those late 60s-1970 blocks that were beefier for around 200-300 bucks then you still need to dump a bunch of money into them to get them machined and retro fitted and all that good stuff, and in the end its still a stock block. i havent seen anyone using the new BOSS blocks but have heard good things, but for another 500 you can get a DART block which is what i have. I see lots of cars running the dart blocks and they have no problem supporting 1000+hp safely. go dart

For a high horsepower application, I would DEFINITELY do an aftermarket block. I think a Boss, Dart, or World block would all be good choices.

My next motor will be a World 351W stroker.

Paul.
