best stroker camshaft?

I think my car is under performing and I believe my camshaft is the biggest reason. I have a 331 stroker with a trickflow stage 1 cam, twisted wedge heads, and trickflow intake. The motor put down 320rwhp and 355rwtq. I know I was on a low reading dyno but I still think it should have been more. Any ideas on what would be a good cam or should I get a custom ground cam? I'm looking for something thats gonna give me good power and also be able for my tuner to tune.

Call Jay @ Camshaft Innovations. He seems incredibly knowledgeable about this kind of stuff.

Note: I don't personally run a custom cam (I run the same one you have). I have talked to Jay a few times and I'd whole heatedly trust him to grind my cam when I get the money to do so.

go with a custom ground cam, you can't go wrong

I can't agree more..

TFS Stage 1 is definitley way to small for anything larger than a 302/306

x182dan..

So you know there is not a doubt in your mind that motor is 110% perfect and nothing could have possibly gone wrong on assembly?

well the fact that I've had the motor in this car for over 2years and have had zero motor issues tells me its fine. It runs strong but I feel my camshaft is a baby one for my motor. Just looking for opinions.

My opinion is have a leak down test to see if there are any other concerns with your engine at all. Then spend a fortune in tearing the engine down and install new cam/pushrods.

Why didn't use a cam for your motor in the first place?? :dontknow:

Always easier and cheaper to do the job once.

You need a real cam and a real intake.

Personally I call Ed Curtis at FTI when I need a cam...but that's just me.

Thanks guys for nothing I guess this site is getting like every other forum on the net. I ask a question and get bullsh*t back. The fact that I was asking about camshafts tells you I have motor issues? Where the f*ck did you guys get that from? I'm fully aware that I don't have the worlds best intake and heads but its what I want to work with and it was the cheapest available.

Hey I would go with a custom jay allen cam, or anderson cam or comp cam, and maybe send your heads out for port work ,get the most you can out of it if you do that you can easily get 340-370rwhp out of it ,if you want to go alll out and push more rpm/s compression and port work you can prob do 380-400rwhp! esp with the extra rpm's and ci havingt a 331, goodluck and ignore the morons

ya but I'll still put down 350rwhp on the efi logics dyno even if on everyone elses dyno it would be closer to 380rwhp like your saying, lol.

x182dan, I think that you're making very good power for a relatively small cam in that combination. If you really want to go to all the trouble and expense of installing a new cam, then as mentioned above a good custom cam may be for you. Jay Allen, Ed Curtis -- all those guys can help.

That said, you have a relatively "normal" combination and you could also use one of the larger Comp Cams Xtreme Energy cams, or call Anderson Motorsport and get one of theirs. They have some pretty aggressive grinds.

At the end of the day though, keep in mind that the dyno number is just that, a number, and doesn't mean much. People spend lots of time and money chasing a number that is typically pretty arbitrary. If the car drives and performs well, and you enjoy driving it, then drive the hell out of it!!

Paul.

OP... considering you are actually realy close, you should take the time to head up to Dez Racing in Seekonk Mass.

Mike (unlike some of the pricks on this forum) actually has a fucking clue.

He will probably (like I did) tell you that the heads are too small for your engine

So the O.P. doesn't like the forum and neither does the guy above me... why are you guys crying about the forum? You ask a question on the internet and you're going to get a variety of answers, some will be what you want to hear and some won't. You supposed to take the info you want from the replies and go from there.
