Ok so the other nite me and my buddy put an amp and subwoofer in the Cobra. Nothing crazy just a 500W amp and an 8. All I want is better lows and something to take the strain off the factory speakers. Well this worked fine, but after hooking it all up none of my dash lites worked, no gauges, no hvac lites, nothing. Im guessing we hooked the remote wire into the dimmer wire (the blue one w/ a white stripe) So I find the fuse thats popping, its a 10amp located closest to the back of the fuse box (towards the seat) Put a new one in it and it was blown immediately. Took the remote off of the supposed dimmer wire and went to put another fuse, out of 10amps, FAWK! Screw it, use a 15, turn lights on, fuse does not pop, but now no lites work at all..except the headlights. This blows, at first the marker lites and shit still worked, but now the only lites that come on when you pull the knob all the way out are the headlights. Im guessing I popped a relay somewhere :dunno: Help me out here guys

same thing happened with my gt Mark, I can remember which fuse it was, but it was one in the dash panel that fixed it.

i had this situation before. try this-take ur dome light out, turn ur dome light switch till it clicks on while u have the headlights on while the fuse is still good. if ur dash lights light up, its ur headlight switch. i ran into this problem a couple months ago and it pissed me off lol. i did that out of experimenting and fianlly solvedit. let me know how it goes.

Sounds like you need to research your projects a little better. Shouldn't be hooking a 500W amp into a 10 amp shared circuit. What does the manual for the amp say it uses? Use a circuit that either isn't used (space for an option you don't have) or the cig lighter circuit is a good one if you never use the lighter......if your car came with one, and it is usually at least 15 amps.

Read up a little bit and get an education on installing electrical accessories before you delve into such a venture if you are not already up to speed on such things. It will save a lot of headaches if you find out some things before just splicing it in there.

As for resolving the issue I would say incorporate the use of a friend with a volt/ohm meter that knows how to use it to find what is wrong rather than randomly trying things. That will take you forever.

check all your grounds, something is not right at all. do not go up in the rating on the fuse ethier, there is a reason its a 10 and its serving its purpose. im willing to bet its a ground.

I had the same thing happen to me in my neon when I put in a cd player. The wire that is used for illuminating the player was exposed and touching some metal behind it (I think it's an orange wire). Usually the cd players can light up themselves so this wire is not needed, which is why it was just hanging out back there. Check to see if that's whats going on.

Im pretty sure by talking to him on the phone that he hook the remote wire to it, not the power supply. The remote is most likely a 2amp signal draw. I will be going up there on Sunday, with my power probe and volt meter to help him if he hasn't gotten it straight by then.

Hey man are you running a 100A or so fuse under your hood by the battery? that is what you should be doing first of all. If so sounds like one of your wires is grounding out. As to the problem with your lights you blew a fuse or relay no biggie.

Blue wire w/ white stripe = Remote Amp Turn-on wire
Orange wire w/ white stripe = Dimmer Wire.

When you hooked up the wrong wire you probably almost fried something in your dash wiring harness, putting in a bigger fuse completed the task. Pull out your headlight switch, it probably has a melted plug in the rear of it like mine did. If it's not that, take a meter and start tracing wires, you've melted something somewhere. Start at the fuse block and see if it has power to one side of the fuse. If it has power to one side then it's something after the fuse and the dash wiring harness. If you have no power to either side of that fuse port, break out the wallet and take it to a dealership cause you have major problems in store for yourself.
