BOO Brake On/Off Switch problem

OK so I've had a battery drain problem with my car and I narrowed it down to fuse #9 in the I/P Fuse Panel.

On this fuse circuit is the Brake On/Off (BOO) Switch, and Electronic flasher.

I'm pretty sure the electronic flasher is referring to the turn signal module thing. So I pulled that out and the drain remained. So logically I outruled that as a problem.

That leaves me with the BOO switch. From what I know it has something to do with the brakes and disengaging the torque converter or something along those lines?

Could someone elaborate on what this switch is, where it's located, and why it would cause a 2.2amp draw on the battery? What can I do to solve fix my problem?

I am horrible at electrical stuff so be forewarned. :snow_laugh:

The BOO switch is at the top of the brake pedal. You can't miss it once you get squeezed under the dash. You might look for chafed wiring although I would expect a bare wire would cause a blown fuse. 2.2 A is a pretty hefty current, imo. The BOO is used for a lot of things and the Haynes manual (less than twenty bucks at AutoZone and even cheaper at Borders but it is not usually in stock) has electrical schematics in the back showing all BOO connections. You are correct that it is used to toggle the torque converter off (if that is how the tune is set up). I will check out my Haynes and post up more info (a little later).

Stay tuned.

So it is a fuse under the dash? I think this is what was wrong with my car before I started working on it.

I'll take a peek at the Owner's Manual for the fuse(s), I don't recall if it is in the interior fuse panel (LH side of the lower dash near the door) or in the engine bay panel ("high current").

Stay tuned.

Chris

**edit: You want to check fuse #9 in the interior panel. It is a 15A fuse and it "points" to the round flasher module at one end and to the panel bolt on the other end. Next, you want to check the "INT LPS" fuse in the engine bay panel. It is a tiny 25A fuse and the location is third one from the engine bay in the second row from the left. I don't know the color of either fuse (sorry).
** end of edit.

Thanks man! I will give it a look next time I can see my car. This must be what is wrong with my car. I knew I had done something when I was trying to hook up my 03 driver seat. I started the car and it was acting crazy so i cut it off unplugged everything form the seat started the car again put it in drive and it just went dead. If it was in anything but neutral or park it would go dead unless I was on the gas and the next day my battery was dead.
