Okay so our 1994 GT will be up for a brake job soon, IE Pads and rotors.

My brother in law Dave is gonna buy the parts for our car and I will provide the labor.

I do not want to put all stock parts back on, but I would like to replace them with slotted rotors (I don't want cross drilled I was told those are a waste of time/money unless you road race the car which we don't) and ceramic pads. I knew a guy who road raced and all he had was slotted rotors and ceramic pads and he said they are a bit squeaky when cold but stop like a champ and have a lot less fade, which is what we are getting now.

Can you guys steer me in a good brand of rotors and pads direction? I am going to print out the parts and have Dave order them up.

Also, what else would you say I should do when I swap these parts? I was thinking about bleeding the brakes a bit and flushing out some of the old fluid... how difficult is the ABS system on our cars? I thought I would just open each bleeder at the wheels one by one and let the fluid gravity bleed until it gets near clear coming out. Will this work or screw it up?

I have done a lot of brake jobs before, but not neccessarily on this kind of Mustang, and as such any advice you can give will help out!
Thanks!

Cross drilled rotors are mainly for looks. Especially on a daily driver. Ceramic pads are also unnecessary IMHO. They dont have quite as good a stopping power as a good semi-metallic pad but dont fade under hard braking like semi-metallic or organic pads do. Ceramics are good if you are going to be doing alot of hard stopping like on a road race course. Or if you tow stuff. I used them on my truck for when I was towing my camper.

Get a either a set of Cobra/Mach 1 or '99+ (you will need to modify the spindle slightly) brakes for the front. Both are dual piston calipers with the cobras using a larger 13" rotor. The '99+ use the same 11" rotor you have now.

I plan on doing Cobras with cross drilled rotors in front and Baer 13" cross drilled rotors in back. Because I like the look. :naughty:

As far as the bleeding, get a bleeder vacuum pump and suck the fluid out. Their only a few $$$.

Like mentioned get slotted drilled if you want but its mainly for looks. I know I upgraded to Cobra brakes up front then the baer 13" rear rotors like Anrev mentioned and I love the look but mainly the way the car brakes...like night and day. Upgrading the rotors alone with stock calipers wont do much, you could do that then get some nice brake pads like hawk? and you should notice a bit of a diffrence.

Hmm.... I don't quite know if we could afford to upgrade the brakes that far right now. Does it require changing anything other than the calipers and flexible lines?

I think just a good set of pads and rotors will do us for now..

yeah rotors and good pads will help. powerslot are great and hawk make great pads too.

for a brake upgrade you need new calipers, rotors, and should get SS lines. I think mine was all around $500? Cant really remember but check out our sponsor stangsuspension.com they will give you a discount if you tell them your a member here. Best prices on brakes too.

the thing is, those brakes require bigger wheels. This GT must have been a bottom of the barrel GT because it has almost no fancy options on it, and it has the most basic rims... so pads and rotors for now...

where would agood place for power slots and hawks be? Best price wise?
