doing the pi intake mani swap. i think the threads got dirty and when i was tightening the bolt down it stopped..so i started backing it back out and the head snapped. NOW

when i was sleeping for work my dad used the drill bit and extractor bit method and i guess went gung ho on it and broke the extractor off in it. lol my luck right?

will the stud removers you get at auto parts stores work? not enough material left now and since it was a hardened bit its harder then hell to drill through.

Best way to remove it is have a washer and not welded to the end

alright ive cooled down a lil. its the back bolt on the passenger side of the motor for the intake manifold. about an 1/8" of it is sticking up. and it broke at the last threads of the bolt(snapped the head basically). hes used pliers, pipe wrenches and vise grips which has rounded off the threads.

went and bought one of the stud tools from advance(where it twists and grips and i cant tell if its working at all).

summit makes one that looks likes a socket and when you "loosen it" its tightens down on the "stud"

Honestly why are you wasting your time? Just weld on a nut then work it right out

This is why I bought a metric tap & die set, and chased all the holes in the entire motor, and when using old bolts I put them on the wire wheel on the bench grinder to clean up the threads. All the bolts went in finger tight, and torqued up nicely. It's a PITA, but it can save a lot of time & headaches down the road.

Wow dude- you definitely went through hell on this one. Glad it's all back together. Welcome to having a power band after 4800 RPM!

hells right lol but i love it. still had a small coolant leak when i put it back on at the frt passenger side so i hand tightened em all another 1/2 turn and if its still leaking its extremely small..hopefully some worked pi heads coming up next..ready to whoop up on some LS1s

cleaning threads with less abrasive wire brush does wonders. also soaking old bolts in a penetrant oil like a thin household oil or preventive compound reduces chewed up threads.
