bump steer?

Basically when you lower a Mustang it can create a case where the A arm and tie rod do not move in the same arc pattern when the suspension moves up and down, thus causing the toe of the wheel to move in or out over bumps causing the car to "steer". Bump steer kit fixes the alignment issue thus fixing the problem.

Yeah, its described as "The cars steering wheel turns when I hit a bump in the road" causing the car to veer left or right while traveling down the highway.

I just put one on my car. I like it is it necessary ? No but its cheap enough and makes the car better

If the setup isn't too extreme you may not have enough to worry about. Mine seemed to get a lot worse with adding X2 ball joints, which I'd advise against.

X2 balljoints? Are those the steeda ones?
Ford Racing makes a set also and they look identical to Steeda. The bumpsteer kit is a "have to" when installing the X-2 Balljoints. I installed the X2 balljoints to acquire the extra 1/2" drop with Ford Racing springs. I accomplished getting a 2" drop when all was said and done.

If and when you do the kit, you want to make sure the tie rod is on the same horizontal plane as your control arm, when viewed directly from in front of the car. after you lower it, you can look at this and decide if it is or not. The kit will come with a ton of spacers and washers, and it takes a little time to figure out what combo works best.

all i plan on is ford racing b springs with no iso's up front. both iso's in the back (don't hate the rake ;p)

Theres a dude here in Denver selling lowering springs off a new edge GT for $75......


And you may or may not need the bumpsteer kit. depends on how the tie rods look after its all done. most people wouldnt know what bumpsteer is if it happened anyways.... lol.

I installed my B-Springs. No bumpsteer kit, but it isn't too severe for myself. I only have an issue with bumpsteer on really bad bumps, but I had that with my stock ride height too.

So the those Steeda X2 balljoints are just a waste of money? I don't even really understand what they do to be honest. When I read about it, it sounded like you may as well use a drop spindle.

They are supposed to raise the hub or some crap, but people like me use them without the spacer to lower the front of the car more which basically negates their purpose. A few people on here me included have had problems with them wearing out very prematurely. I talked to Steeda about it and they didn't seem surprised at all to hear that they wore out after a thousand miles of use so who knows.

I sometimes e-mail Agent47 to ask questions regarding suspension or transmission. They are always helpful. I figure they beat the hell out of their SN95's on the track and have a pretty good idea or suggestions on how certain set-ups work. Maximum Motorsports have been helpful too.
Like I said before, I installed them to aquire the additional drop in the front. Everything is working beautifully so far. Keep researching untill you are satisfied. Having to re-do the suspension work a second or third time would be a horrible waste of time. Post when all is said and done!

That sounds like pretty bad. I guess I'm definitely never going to get them. I daily drive my car so wearing out after a few thousand miles would piss me off.

I have them and I'm hoping for the best. You don't really think that they sell them with expectations of failing in a few thousand miles do ya? Do your researching. Ford Racing springs may be the only set of lowering springs you can get away with installing without any other components needed for proper operation. The trade off is a very small drop and stance. (Without cutting them of course)

My son installed B's on his 98. It aligned without cc plates and he's never mentioned anything about bump steer. total drop was about 1"
