i have been looking into buying some 4.10 gears for my 97 GT. my only question is, what the **ck do i need to buy with the gears. this will be the first time putting gears in a car. (having a shop do it) so i need to have all the stuff before hand, or they will charge me more. thanks in advance!

you speedo will be off , so you'll need a speed cal to correct it.
the VSS replaceable gears are only good up to a 3:55 ratio

All you'll need is the gears, bearings w/ install kit, royal purple gear fluid. And maybe a trak lok rebuild kit if you wanna freshen that up while your in there. You got a 97, so if you have a sct tuner from AM they can send you a new tune for the 4.10s. SneakySonBeach

As some one mentioned you will more than likely need a speedcal to correct the speedo make sure you order the ford racing one. Your best bet is to just buy the kit from American muscle that has everything you need in it and then like I said get the speedcal. Are you sure they will charge you more? I'm surprised they don't have a lot of shit in stock at the shop and don't do price matching, that's how the place I have my work done it operates they even have a nice selection of rims on site and will just about match any prices.

Like has been said, get the tuner from American Muscle......it will be easier to reprogram the speedo. Also, considering the age, I wouldn't hesitate to go with the Master Bearing Kit (included all bearings, not just the bearings for the diff but the axle bearings as well). Plus, since the trac loc seems to be the weak link in the rear ends of our cars (1 wheel peel is not cool) I would replace the clutches as well.....You can get all of the mentioned from American Muscle using the option tabs.

If you wanted to save yourself a little bit of money, but still get some quality parts, you could get your bearings from rock auto. That is where i got mine. I think it came out to about $70 for my bearings. That doesn't include the axle bearings which i got locally.
