I recently finished putting some gt40 (explorer heads) upper and lower intake and an e303 cam in my car. it sounds great now, starts right up like it should. We set the timing pretty close to 13-14. I want to send it in to have it tuned by Marv at C and M automotive performance here in Wisconsin. It wont be for another month yet and i'd like to drive it in the meantime. The other day i noticed white smoke coming from the tailpipes, didnt smell like anything other than exhaust. Oil looks fine and so does coolant levels. Im chalking it up to crap in the combustion chambers, the plugs were black looking when i pulled them out. This has since gone away.
I put in a brand new 180* thermostat, upon the first test drive, temp got up to 225-230. kinda high... is this because its not tuned yet? Also, it sounds great but felt underpowered. this must be because of the tune as well im assuming. Any pointers here? Anyone cam a 95 with a similar set up and not get a tune?
Car has a full exhaust, MAC shorties and Pypes all the way back, no cats. EGR delete, AC delete, smog delete, bigger throttle body, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, MSD cap and rotor, blaster coil etc...

Thanks for all the help!

Where did you get the heads? Had em checked for cracks or rebuilt at a machine shop?

Set your timing back to 10d. I had the same issue with my b303. Wait till you have it tuned to have the timing changed. Mine ran idled ok and started great but had no balls until I got adder to burn me a chip and now it's a whole nother beast!

That's the same setup I run. You should be at about 260rwhp, 300-310tq.

I'm curious what a tune will do fo you, I can't tune for my race class, but I'd love to see how much HP is left in that setup.

Oh, and I hope you changed springs in the 40P heads, you need some higher reving springs for your app.

evil, how much power does that beast make now?

Haven't had it dyno'd yet. Still workin on finishing the body. After I get the body done I'm goin to start back on performance. Only thing I've done for the motor lately is pick up a fox intake that got the shit worked out of it in an extruned honed port job. Been sittin in my back seat for a month now. I'll dyno it one of these days. Gotta get msd ignition set up first and put intake on then I'll see what she does

Sounds good, when i do get the tune ill post numbers for sure. No, stock springs are still on it. What springs should i get? Can i install these with the heads on the car? What about new rockers? Eventually when i get this sorted out, 3.73's and decent tires ill post a 1/4 mile time so everyone who is unaware will know what to expect with this combo. I know that its been done a million times but anyone who is just getting into it can read this and have a good understanding... This isnts going to be anything crazy, but i wanted a streetable toy to have some fun with

Well if the heads arent caracked, just could have been condensation in the exhaust.

And I run almost the same combo as you. Long tubes, flows, GT40s milled .040, ported to hell explorer intake, stock cam,70mm fox TB, 76mm proM meter, 24lb ev6's, and a fox A9L and harness in my 94.

Only got 1 pass on it like this, Ran a 13.91 with a 1.81 60 foot. Im sure there is a few more tenths in it by tweeking it.

And yes there is a world of difference in a properly tuned car. The more aggresive timing and fuel curves in the stock Fox computer alone made the car run much much better.

I don't even know how you still have plugs on it with the MACs. I had those on my 94 initialy, impossible to put plugs in.

On my 40Ps, I bought them with the TFS springs already installed. I think you can use your E7 springs too, they hold up under the RPM. You can do them without removing the head, but I've never done it, so I'm not sure how big of a pain it is. I know you will need to pressurize your combustion chambers with a compressor.

On my setup, I used stock 1.6 rockers. I have a set of OEM Cobra 1.7, but I'm gonna try with the 1.6 first. I cannot make over 260. I will be re-dynoing here in the next month.

What is the weight/MPH of this car?

I swapped a GT40 top end 306 with MAC headers and e-cam into my 94. In my Fox, it made 259HP with stock Fox headers and a DA1 SD ECU. When it went into the SN, I added MAC headers, but lost u/d pulleys. It was able to make 252HP, same exact longblock. I expected to be above 260 with the headers.

Raffaelli, thats about what i was expecting to run, no better than mid 13's. I have a problem though. Last night i took it for a drive and it was smoking so i pulled over right away. For some reason the oil was coming out of the top of the dipstick tube and dripping on the driver side header. I let it cool down for a while, while the oil dripped off the engine and on to the ground. a decent sized puddle ended up on the ground. The oil looked weird, i originally thought it was just new oil with assembly lube in it (slight grayish tint to the oil) but im worried now it might be a head gasket causing coolant to get into the oil. My coolant level dropped as well, but that could be because air pockets burping out of the system. Im going to drain my oil and measure how much liquid comes out. Also, ill take a pic of the oil and upload it for you guys.
