Hello everyone, im new to the forum...just got high speed internet so i can actually do something online! i have a 98 gt that i am working on.. the motor is out of a 96 gt with 70k miles. the engine runs good only has minor bolt ons such as full exhaust and 75 mm throttle body. my question is what are the biggest lift and durration cams i can run to give me the maximum rough idle sound and lope without ruining the performance of the motor and only having to upgrade the vavle springs when i do the cam swap. can anyone help me out? thanks, curt

so you don't mind changeing the springs? thats about any pi cam for these cars out there... exept the ones needing p.t.v clearances.. I've heard good things about vt cams but I don't know if they are still out there ... heard they had some trouble a while back.

If you get Crower offset retainer's, you can go to about .570. Not a bad choice, since you will pulling the springs anyway. Or with the stock retainer's you're limited to about .535.

I recomend either Crower stage II N/A's, along with 4.10 gear's, or a custom grind along with the offset retainer's.

BTW, put a PI intake on before the cams

I'm going off memory, the Cam's are like 589, the springs are about 200, and retainer's are like another 200.

If you want, you can always get another set of NPI heads for like free probably, send them to Steen, and for 700 buck's, they will port them, machine for bigger lift, and install good springs.

Hey JR will they do PI heads that way for 700 also?

Yes Steen starts at 700 with the PI port and polish package. MMR also does this and charges Stage 1 2Valve $450 +20HP, Stage 2 2Valve $550 +30HP, and Stage 3 2 Valve $650 +40HP.

They have some very fast cars I know that. They are the ones that are going to be doing my heads.

Void... there have also been a lot of people running their motors with nothing but good things to say about them. Give them a call. Very nice folks to talk to.

Overlap is what makes that lopey sound. Lift doesn't really matter as far as lope. Lope is usually a result of cams with long duration having a lot of overlap. I don't know what kind of havoc that would reak on the ECM. Before you go plopping down $800 or so you might want to make sure your cam selection will give you the lope you are looking for, or else you will just be lighter in the pocket.

Thanks Jfor, i've sent mmr an email regarding the porting... want to see if it will be good for a 5.4 2v... valve wise and flow wise.

On a side note... one thing that really helps out the sound of a car is the COMPRESSION RATIO 11:1 and 12:1 sounds awsome 9:1 and 10:1 ahhh its ok... any lower than 9:1 take it to the yard lol.

Not bad, put you would only give up about 10-15 rwhp by just running 50-100 dollar pi cams, as opposed to the comps for 500...
