Well, should I manual swap this thing? The AODE works but I am not completely satisfied with it. Either it gets a shift kit(jmod or baumann) and a trans cooler or I T5 swap it. This has been consuming my thoughts for the last few weeks...

One thing holding me back from doing the swap is knowing I have my Cobra with the T56 to row gears in...

I just feel like the AODE holds the car back so much. Honestly I am shocked it cracked a 14....

A manual trans is a no brainer for me. Unless my foot or leg gets cut off, ill be sporting a manual in my rides! Can an automatic trans perform better than a manual trans?....debatable, but i dont care. I love rowing my boat!

I am going against the grain and vote keep it auto.

I loved my 5 speed, but with it being my daily (and having a heavy duty clutch), driving it became tiring after a long day at work.

If you have another Stang with a stick, keep this one auto.

Awesome write up so far, I have enjoyed reading through it. The pictures after installing the flowmaster cat-back really shows how nice the original canary yellow paint is! My vote is for manual swap; it would be good to encourage the youngsters how to drive a real (non-hydraulicly assisted) manual transmission.

I'd go manual swap, but skip the T5. Go for a TKX - much better transmission than the T5.

Appreciate the opinions!

I am going to manual swap it. The deciding factor is I want my Son(12y/o) who has been helping with this build to learn to drive manual on this car, not the Cobra.

I think the path I am going to take is to slowly collect the parts over time, and then do the swap in a couple years(with my Son's help!) when he is closer to driving age!

I'm going to be doing the same with my son in a few months once it's warmer and his swim season is over. Already have a full swap kit sitting in the garage. The slushbox is fine but I miss rowing my own gears.

My red car has some single disc spec clutch. Feels like pushing down a stack of phone books. My green car has a mcleod rxt twon disc, it feels like my old subaru crosstrek clutch. Super light.

Mine was a single disk organic with a heavy duty pressure plate. Loved it, but after work, or really long drives in traffic, it got tiring.

In the meantime I think I will jmod it or get the Baumann shift kit and throw a trans cooler on it. Also need to install the Cobra upper and lower. Would be nice to get down to 14.5 or so this year!

That beefy single disc life is rough. Twin disc ftw.
I do remember hearing about twin disks having chatter problems or something.

It’s been a while since I read up on it but there is a catch with twin disks right? Apart from the higher chance of having to mess with clutch fork geometry?

Did about 140 miles round trip today to an indoor car show of mostly vintage drag race cars. Today was the first big test to see if the new range selector switch(neutral safety switch) solved the erratic highway habits of the AODE. The answer is YES. The Mustang was (nearly) flawless- the passenger side exhaust pipe rubbed a little on some turns, and one time it held first gear a little too long going up a hill. Today was definitely a strong case for kind of leaving the car alone... It was cruising so well at 75-80mph.

Always a caveat to things. So I don't know if it's a normal thing or not since i bought this clutch off of my friend 10 years ago used who blew up his blown 3v engine at the strip.. But my twin disc does indeed chatter between 800 and 2k if I am dogging it. Once about 1800~2000 it's gone. I had zero issues with clutch fork positioning on my tr3650 though.

Well for someone like me that is no good, I like to stay quiet so I leave a stoplight just above idle, say 1000 RPM.

Oh well, can’t have it all :)

Yeah. It's more of a rattling noise if anything. I can let the clutch out and It starts rolling just fine. But when I lean on the gas at low rpm it sounds like a horrific rattle. Like my car is broken. Any gear. Then once over 2k it disappears

you probably checked this already, but reminds me of the time my exhaust heat shield fell off in front of a bus stop full of people when I was doing a pull. Used to make noise only when taking off too, but I brought it up because it still makes me laugh.
