so the other day i was just driving along, and all of a sudden it felt like i was only running on 7 cylinders. i check it out at work.
has fuel, has spark, but studers when starting, and sounds like its missing. well me and a buddy thought maybe a rocker arm
came loose. so to test to see if all of the cylinders were firing, while the car was running, we sprayed a little water on each
individual header tube, and if it sizzled off, cylinder is hot, therefore firing. well on #3 and #4 the water was just gliding right off,
no sizzle, nothing. so we break out the compression tester, 50 in 3 and 4. SH*T! all the other cylinders checked out fine.
we are leaning towards the head gasket blew in the small space between 3 and 4 cylinders. or by some FREAK instince, the
piston rings went in both 3 and 4 around the same time? suggestions?

THAT SUCKS!! What do the plugs look like? Do a leak down test and see how that turns out. Keep us posted.

pull out your valve cover breather. if there is any foam of the end of it then yes, its a head gasket. i am expiriencing the same problem right now :'(

Pull a plug and see if you get any coolant.

Let's hope it isn't a dead cylinder. **knocking on wood**

If it is, oh well there is your reason for building a 347 :pimp:

cylinders 3 & 4, (problem cyl.) both those plugs have gas all over them, so thats how i knew i was getting fuel to both of them.
no coolant that i've seen yet, me and a buddy tore it down to the heads, but not taken the heads off yet, no foam,
nothing out of the ordinary. when i had this motor rebuilt i had it rebuilt FROM the shortblock up, so the rings have about 25K
on them, but other than that everything gasket wise is new, but it did get too hot a couple times this summer, then i changed
the thermostat from a 180 to a 160 and it was fine. but maybe those couple of times overheating weakend the head gasket
and finally gave in? i already ordered a head gasket set for the Trick Flow heads off summit, which should be here today.
If by some freak instance, the head gaskets are fine, and the problem lies in the shortblock? 3-3-1 FTW.

Make sure that you put some new plugs and wires in there... maybe you have some bad plugs or a bad wire...

yeah it does suck, but, although it sounds weird, i am kind of excited about tearing it apart more. i have done smaller things (intake
manifold, gears, sway bar stuff) but never removing the heads. i already called the local shop that checks out all of my works' (firestone)
cylinder heads whenever we do similar engine repar. he is going to check the heads out, and if by chance they are slightly warped, he'll machine them for hella cheap. i blame myself for all this trouble, i should have put more thought into my cooling system when i was
throwing all that aluminum under the hood. oh well, tear down comences tommorrow night.

Man that sucks, sorry to hear it. It always pains me to hear about a broken stang. Good luck to you. Hope you get it fixed soon and start punishing it again lol

ok, so me and a buddy of mine finally tore it down friday night, knocked out everything in about 2 hours, with hand tools
in a garage. I was soooo relieved to see that the head gasket material between 3 and 4 was broken. everything else
checked out. (valves looked good, no damage to pistons) after Xmas i am taking the heads to a machine shop to
have them checked out.. i think i might also order an aluminum radiator to prevent the overheating from happening again.
i will post up pictures possibly later tonight.

I hope your heads are not warped too much or at all. How long and how hot did it get. This is the car with the trickflows right? At least you found the problem man. I wish I had a garage so badly to pull my car apart and build a decent engine lol.

If there is any warping of the heads, it should be vvveerryyy minimal. it pegged the factory temperature gauge, at
least 2 times i can think of off the top of my head. and yes this is the car in my sig.

If it were the iron heads I would say so. I would just be slightly worried about the aluminums getting hot like that. But I hope all is well. Good luck.
