Car sputtering and dying

Today my 1997 died while at a stop. after trying to start it for about 20 minutes, it finally started and ran fine. Just a sec ago it died again. and once again after trying to start it for about 20 mins, it started right back up. I dont get it. Anyone know what this could be?

check IAC valve on the throttle body

fuel pump failing?

no check engine light?

I'm going to guess you're down two cylinders. Make sure all eight plug wires are snug and tight and everything is in tip-top shape.

Just joking. Are you having any idling problems?

well mine is doin the same once u let off the gas it gets a deep tone and want take fuel but if i let off the gas it has a rough idle

No check engine light. The fuel pump was my first thought. I was headed to work and just got home and havent had a chance to check things out, but it hasnt done since earlier

No idling problems at all. I pushed the pedal, and it rode at 1k rpms and barely moved. then it died
