I have a 1998 SN95 with a Auto V6 and I have a CEL(check engine light) that I pulled and get the P0340 Cam Position Sensor Code set by RF Signal from Alternator

I've got a .pdf on how to replace the cam position sensor, but will it hurt to drive the car until it gets fixed? What does this code mean in relation to the function of the motor?

Thanks!

it may cause the car to stall randomly as the cam sensor tells the car when to inject fuel.

Thanks Zach. It won't trash the engine to drive it for a one way trip 350 miles will it?

I wouldn't try it because it may leave you stranded on that one way trip...

2 quick questions:

1. Which cylinder on a 1998 V6 is #1?

2. What size bolt is on the crank holding the harmonic balancer on? I need to know this so I can turn the motor over to get #1 pistion at TDC.

Thanks again.

Thanks. I bought the car in Dallas, TX and had to drive it 350 miles to get it to it's new stable. :icon_rr:

I did change the cam position sensor out when I got the car home. Simple install. Funny thing about this ordeal was there was a CEL on as stated in the initial post when I arrived in Dallas. I drove the car about 30 miles and shut it off for gas. Then I drove it another 50 miles and shut it off to eat. The CEL never came back on after that. I never saw the CEL again. I did change the CPS just because it was an easy swap, but I did an alternator check on the car and it checked out good so I brought the new alternator back that I had bought to change out on the road if necessary.

I really like the SN95 body style. Gotta get to modding it now. :laughing5:
