Driving to school and all of a sudden everything shuts off... gauges, headlights, deck, EVERYTHING.
Also, my water temp gauge maxed out, as did my oil press, voltage was in the red, and fuel was where it should be.
Engine continues to run, mind you i had to keep on moving and giving it gas to keep it alive and was running very rough.
Now i have had alternator issues in the past where the same thing had happened. So i went and bought an alternator and replaced it.

I started my car up and its still f**ked. The engine runs but very rough like before. Gauges work for a short time until i hit the brake. then it goes back to being f**ked. What am i missing help me out!! Also, while running my car i noticed i have a highbeam indicator that stays on, ive been told this is a tripped breaker that is now faulty and has to be replaced (self resetting breaker). So something would have had to trip the breaker....?? :dontknow:

We can rule out a few things:
-battery, new and has full charge and has gone through a load test
-alternator along with voltage regulator as mentioned
-battery terminals
-ground cable from battery to motor

Any help would be appreciated :eek:ccasion14:

WOW! Very strange symptoms... Wonder what the chances are of the alternator's voltage regulator malfunctioning and actually overcharging or "spiking" the system. Usually a voltage regulator will discharge when it goes south but, I have caught a couple over the years that would overcharge and overheat the alternator and take the fusable link with it.
