My mustang gt 5.0 94/95 sometimes when I walk to the check engine light comes on briefly and then turns off ... does anyone know what can be?
Regards.

have the codes read.
the CEL doesn't need to be on for the codes to be stored.
none of the auto houses around me can read OBD1 codes so I use the paperclip method I learned in the haynes/Chilton manual.

you will need to pull the codes to see exactly what is wrong. Hit a local autoparts store and see what they can pull and tell you.

There are literally hundreds of codes. A CEL that come on then off is caused by a sensor falling out of spec (CEL-On) then coming back into spec (CEL-Off). Of all the potential causes I would guess it's one of the two O2 sensors. All emissions related sensor failures will always cause a CEL as mandated by Federal Clean Air Act.
  • The Federal Clean Air Act has several chapters involving the emissions of motor vehicles. While laws vary from state to state on acceptable levels of emissions, one aspect uniformly regulated in all 50 states, is the requirement of motor vehicles to be manufactured with a check engine light. In addition to the previously mentioned functions, this light will flash when issues concerning excessive emissions are present.

Welcome to the site. Go online or to your local Kragen/O'reilys and buy the $20-$30 Equus Ford code scanner. Connect it to the plug located by the driver's side strut tower and follow the instructions, if you can't figure out what's wrong with the car after you google your codes online then post them up here. Or you can do the paper clip method

The DTC connector is on the passenger side strut tower NOT driver's side. The code reader will also have a booklet explaining the codes. This is the one you want.
