How can i check if my lifters are going bad. There is a lot of play between them and the valve. It is also very very easy to press the plungers in. I have been having a really loud valvetrain noise and they are the only part of the valvetrain I didn't replace recently.

Also, has anyone ever used rebuilt lifters instead of brand new? They are a lot cheaper and the ones i can buy locally would be stock replacement anyway...

Yeah there's no oil pressure, it just means the bleed-down valve isn't sealing perfect, no biggie.

If the noise is really loud then just replace them. Get new FORD lifters....you can get them from any Ford Racing dealer.

A set should be around $100 or so.

yah, the noise is annoyingly loud. There is only one ford racing dealer within 50 miles of me so I'm calling him on monday morning and if not I'll wait a couple days for ebay...

I just took my lifters apart, cleaned them thoroughly, "pumped" oil into them, let them soak in oil, and put them back in the motor I rebuilt. There's not really much to them. As long as the roller tip is in good order, and all the internals look good, you can re-use them.

Haven't run the motor yet. I'm sure the lifters will be fine.
