My brother has kids and grandkids from both coasts in town for the first time ever, so we are going over in a few hours to enjoy the chaos. Then, my wife and I come home and start prepping for tomorrow's dinner at our house with her family.
On the less selfish side, I'm packing up spare trombone accessories to ship to a kid who lost his dad. The trombone forum I belong to is doing its best to help out. I fill the box, find more stuff I really don't need, then have to find a bigger box! Makes me realize how lucky/blessed I am.
Murphy's Law. Got my "visitin' clothes" on when my mother in law called. Sewers backed up into the condo my wife and I own and she rents. Had to rip out carpet and pad in hallway, clean up shower stall of sewage, mop up bathrooms and utility room. Condo sent over plumber who snaked out the line. Had to postpone visiting the family until after Christmas. To top that off, yesterday it backed up again. The plumber brought a camera this time. I watched as he cleared a plug. He said the line had two low spots and stuff flows downhill but not up, so the condo assocation has a choice - do regular PM on the line with a jet or snake, or dig up the line (which means cracking the slab through two first floor condos). He said the old condo management was doing the PM, but the new management cheaped out and stopped it. Just what I wanted to be doing on my week off.
All that said, my wife and I had a quiet Christmas Day at home. She got me a 10-pack of Sam Adams seasonal beer along with other stuff - she is a keeper! Gotta say the beer, peanut butter pretzels, and candy seemed odd along with the Fitbit... Day after made it to my brother's house. Him and his wife, adult kids from both coasts, two young rug rats. Organized chaos, but it was great.
Work can be a PITA, but at least I have a job. I'm feeling my age, but at least I'm alive. My wife and I both have health issues, but nothing major. Counting our blessings!
My best to everybody and let's all have a great 2018.
