i picked up some new heads today. the guy told me that they were windsor heads so i ran the code on them and came to find out that they are 351 cleveland heads! should i keep them? or sell them? if i go the sale route, what would be a price for a nice set of cleveland heads? thanks

the code your looking for would look something like this D0OE or D1OE. if the combustion chamber is triangular shaped and the ports are big enough to almost stick your hand through then it is a 4bbl head. depending on what you want out of your engine would determine if you need the 4bbl heads or not. they breathe a ton. the 2bbl head still flows better than stock windsor head ever would. the 2bbl head has a big combustion chamber but the ports and valves are smaller and would make for a killer street car if the engine is matched properly. i would be willing to bet that you have 2bbl heads. post pics if you have any.

cleveland heads won't bolt on a windsor will they?

As far as I can recall that would be a no. The 351 clevland block was different. The 351 Windsor is based on the same block as the 260/289/302. The 351 Clevland block is a big block 351/400M.

it will bolt up to a windsor block, but the coolant passage has to be changed on the heads to make the coolant go through the intake manifold like the windsor engine. there has been articles in hotrod magazine about doing it. they called it the clevor engine. you also have to get a special intake manifold to make it work.

i agree it is a lot of work buts a little different under the hood and i like that. i think the idea of a built clevor in a street sn95 would be neat and run really strong.

i am almost positive they are two barrel heads.. the chamber wasn't big enough to stick my hand in like you said, and there is a 2 located on the top of the head between the valves. My plan as of now is to get them worked and stick them on a 302 i've been working on for a little while. i was going for something different. once i get the engine all together i plan on sticking it into a foxbody or a SN. i will get pics up of the heads as soon as i can. thanks for the input

let us know how that works out. i have a cleveland, a windsor and a 302, and the cleveland heads look all around too big for our windsor engines, even though i have heard it is possible somehow (clevors), but the heads simply look too wide and too long imo

THey will physically bolt on... stick a Windsor gasket on the head and you'll see where you need to drill for the coolant passages. You do need a special intake, or adapter's. If you are carb'd, a Boss 302 intake will bolt up.

They are not too big for 302's, since they were originally designed for the Boss 302

that should be a neat build. the only other thing you will need is headers. holcombmotorsports.com has headers for 351c in both fox and sn95 cars.

the easyest way to tell a 2v head from a 4v head is look down on the head from the top (looking down at the valve cover) and at the corner of the head it will have a 2 or a 4 cast into it.

this only works for 351c heads. and a 351c, 351m and 400 are all small blocks.

just because the 351m-400 has the big block bell bolt patern means nothing.

BACK FROM THE DEAD! I recently got curious about the headers, so i took them to have them looked at and it turns out that they are Australian heads (351 aussie). they are 2 barrel heads with a closed chamber. So im pretty stoked about that!
