Ok I'm pretty sure this has been asked before a million time but i have an issue.
last year i purchased a complete 5speed swap for my gt
Well i went for some upgrades aluminum driveshaft, rebuildable flywheel and pro5.0 shifter
But kept the stock replacement clutch. Not even a year later its slipping at high rpms like 3800 to 4500.
My car dyno'd only makes 185rwhp and 248lbtq on a dynojet so power isnt the issue.
My ? Is what clutch is the best one for my car im thinking spec stage2 and frpp throw out bearing. Any suggestions welcomed

Mine lasted forever. I've been pretty hard on it too, got over 100k on it. On the other hand, almost every clutch is better than stock. When I went to ACT clutch from stock, I could not believe how much lighter the clutch pedal got after.

Driving style also has a lot to do with clutches going out, and no I don't mean always getting on it like you stole it. Slipping the clutch more then needed will definitely wear out a clutch fast. Since you're not making much power I would not even touch a spec clutch, I had spec 1 in my cobra and hated every minute of it. Installed a Ford Racing HD clutch and 3 years later its holding up just fine @ 300-310whp.

I would go with a centerforce clutch, the step above a stock replacement.

Couldn't agree more.. I have a Spec 1 in my vert and it's way too heavy especially for DD'ing. That and it's either engaged or it's not, no slippage allowed. I'm not one to complain about smooth clutches either seeing as i've driven enough crapbox pickups.

hmm, I don't have anything negative to say about my Spec Stage 2, it's very streetable and holds good power. It grabs as slow or as quickly as you want it to.

^same experience with mine. I had the +2 though, and it was pretty damn stiff. No homo.

I think i've heard the Spec 1 is heavier than the 2..but I just know the 1 is a lousy DD clutch.

if you're at the stock power level, buy a stock replacement or one step up. unless you have big plans for the car later on and don't want to upgrade again then. I have a ford racing clutch in my relatively low powered vert, and it won't slip for anything yet lets you let it out slowly and smoothly when you want to. but if you feel like you need a big time clutch, the centerforce dual friction is simply incredible. minimal pedal pressure and tons of grip.

all that being said, your current clutch should not be slipping so quickly. it may be the way you drive (was this your first manual?) or maybe it wasn't installed correctly. not trying to say you can't drive or install parts, but something is definitely wrong here. maybe you just got a bad or defective replacement clutch.

The spec 1 is definitely stiffer when compared to the Spec 2 from what I've seen. The Spec 1 I had was not a good DD clutch but would make for a good drag racing clutch. Still, I would never go with Spec again.

I am very, very pleased with my SPEC Stage1, SPEC Billit Steel flywheel, FRPP pilot and throwout bearings. I've got about 40K miles now and it has been perfect. Less importantly- I put in a Ford cable, MM clutch quadrant and adjuster.

I have a fully built 2v waiting to go in im just collecting all the parts i want before i put it all together, and iv had nothing but issues with stock replacement parts so i try to stay away from them.

So stage 2 does sound good then
