Aside from the Eaton, could somebody list the differences between the 04 cobra motor and the mach 1 motor?

The Mach 1 engine is not forged, if you want to add a supercharge on a stock Mach 1 engine you can't go more then 5 psi.

But if 305 H.P. is enough for you the Mach 1 is a great Mustang to own.

i know the cobra and the mach 1 both have aluminum blocks. What is the most power I could put on the internals of the mach 1?

not true, the boost depends upon how good the tuner is and how much you want to run on the stock motor.

the Mach 1 and cobra have the same cams and heads. The pistons are different which give them to totally different compression ratios. The cobra block is iron and the mach 1 is aluminum. The Cobra's come all forged while only the Mach's crank is forged(unless it is an auto, then it is not forged) and of course the intake manifold is different.

i thought the cobra had an aluminum block? that doesn't make sense for the mach to have one and not the cobra. they weigh less, and are stronger...

DFG_Pimpin is right.. 03-04 cobra is iron block with forged internals, 03-04 mach is aluminum.
And as far as boost on mach 1 motors, there have been several articles on procharged
mach 1s, 15+ PSI... 5.0 mustang did an article on a bolt-on 03 cobra VS procharged Mach

Ford didn't want issues with any problems that could arise from having an aluminum block with the supercharger and etc...

03 Cobra and Mach1 heads and cams are the same.
Different again for 99-01 heads and cams.
All Cobra motors from 96-04 have forged steel 8 bolt cranks, but only 03-04 Cobras have forged rods and pistons. 99-01's still had powered metal rods and hyper pistons.
96-98 Cobras and 93 and up Lincon Mark8's had aluminum Teskid blocks. 99-01 Cobras and Mach's have aluminum WAP blocks ( not as strong as Teaskids).
03-04 Cobras have iron blocks but with slightly higher nickel so stronger than Mustang GT iron blocks.

My tuner says that 8-9psi boost on the alluminim Cobra/Mach engines is safe. They are a higher compression ration, non-forged internals, accept crank. Other than that the 03/04 Mach engine and 03/04 Cobra engines are the same. Other than the obvious differences for the Eaton.

The guy I bought my junk Mach from said that the 99-up Cobra's and Mach's use the C-heads, but there are differences between the 99-01 C-heads and the 03/04 C-heads.

The cranks in the 93-98 Lincolns were cast 6 bolt flywheel pattern, compared to the Forged 8 bolt flywheel pattern on the Cobra's.

If you are thinking of putting an Eaton on the Mach1 engine, it is a very costly swap. Be prepared to spend 2k+.

Ford stated that the reason they went to an iron block in the 04/04 Cobra was strength but i always thought it was cost....The aluminum block would have added almost another $1000 to the sticker price of an already expensive car.

Are you shopping for cars and looking for differences or are you shopping for engines to swap in a car? If your looking for cars i prefer the 04 Cobra over the Mach for looks, engine, tranny, supercharger but if you are looking to do a engine swap i'd start with a Mach engine because i'd rather have an aluminum block to build with. 75lbs off the nose is a nice savings and Terminator engines are going for alot f money. You could forge a Mach 1 engine and add a blower for just alittle more then the Cobra setup.

i'm looking for engines to swap into my GT. i was going to go with the mach 1 block. The only thing that worries me is my tranny. Will having an auto make a difference in what I need to look for?

which tranny are yu going to put in it? is the motor going to remain stock or are you actually going to mod/race it as well?

This is a very good thread, all of the above is correct.....ive seen machs throw down 500-600hp but the cobras ive seen run in the 900hp range......nuthin beats the shaker on the mach though......but u also cant dismiss the whine of the cobra.......in my opinion id say a cobra FTW
