code readers?

Witch would you guys buy? I'm completely new to this so idk the first thing about these, all i know is i need an OBD1 but i've seen prices ranging from around $40 to almost $300 so if i went for the $40 will it be complete crap or would it get the job done?

If all you want to do us read codes the $30 one will do the job. I picked mine up at Kragen for a little over $30. They also sell them on amazon for about the same price. I believe Equus makes mine

I caught a $129 OBDII unit at Sears on sale for $99 a year or so ago. Pretty nice set-up. It has a memory bank of all the codes for all the mfgr's for '96 to current. No searching through lists of code numbers.

I'm sure Craftsman has a similar OBDI unit. Be aware of any adapters you might need on the OBDI units as all the OBDI cars don't share the same diagnostic receptical.

You don't need a code reader to pull codes...a paper clip will do the job...I know it sounds like some backwoods reckneck crap but I've had better luck pulling codes with a paper clip than a code reader...
