Has anybody changed the actual gauge needle color? I just got my autometer gauge and the needle on it is red, I was wondering if I could make my gauge cluster needles red also

I actually went over the tops and side of my needles with a red sharpie. Did it years ago, and they still look good.
I didn't want to remove any of the needles. Plus if you spray them, I doubt they will still illuminate.

Yeah, just do it a few times and let the ink dry for a few inbetween coats. A wider tipped marker would be best so there's no possibility in streaks.

the color actually is supposed to go on the back of the needle. Putting it on top might make it red but will certainly make them very very dark as the orange light is now passed through the red ink.

i remember from the other thread guys also had good luck with using red nail polish. If you put red nail polish on and then shine a flashlight up through your finger or whatever you can see how it lights up.

now shine an orange light up through it and see how bright it is? Like I said, the color is on the back of the needle and is only reflected off of it. If you make the light shine through it, it will be red but it will be very dark at night. If you want to do it right, try to take the orange color off and then paint it with black.

Guys, I DID this already, many years ago. my needles shine red, and have been doing this all this time.
Black wouldn't do shlt except give you black needles. no reflections though

My 96 needles are yellowish-orange plastic, as are all the new ones to my understanding. The only ones that aren't are the 94-95 needles which are clear with paint on the back. Doesn't leave many options for color choices unless your a 94-95 owner. Red Sharpie the tops or nothing at all.
