Hey guys just a quick question, I had my Vent left on earlier this morning. Came back to the car an hour later and she would not start at all. She would crank but thats about it. I tried starting her a few times every few minutes until I realized I left the Vent switch on. So I decided to turn the switch to off, and she started with no problem. Why did my car do that? Shes a 97 Cobra all stock besides mufflers with 113xxx original miles on it

Sounds like maybe a vacuum leak somewhere in your hvac if I had to guess. Pop the hood and make sure all your vacuum lines are attached and not rotted out

Do a smoke test. Take a cigar, pull a vacuum line, exhale smoke into the vac line, then look for smoke coming out anywhere. It does sounds like an HVAC leak of sorts. When you try it, make sure to have that in "vent" mode.

Never tried that before, but sounds like a good test. I'll try it in a little bit

Well my buddy "accidentally" smoked his last cigar before I got to his house. He's going to buy new ones on the 16th after payday. Damn!

you can also pull the controls out from the dash and inspect the vacuum lines in the dash, as well.

I'm not too familiar with the dash, you wouldn't by chance have any pics would you? I only see wires and don't want to touch anything causing any more problems

well the shroud around the vents just pops out (take your time, it can easily crack) behind that shroud are 4 screws holding the controls in. Unscrew those and inspect the vacuum lines behind them :)

That's because the Ford security radio thing is fawking annoying lol. Yeah check those lines out man make sure nothing is unplugged. Also turn the key into the on position (turning the car on will make it harder to hear) and cycle through the controls at different speeds and settings and see if you notice a difference

my 01 cobra did the same exact thing guys. it ended up being a bad cell in the battery. the first thing to have power taken from it was the coils. so if an accessory was on when trying to start, it would have weak spark......hope this helps ya out man

Well, haven't done a smoke test HOWEVER she overheated. I drove her to the store and back home, the gauge went all the way up to High. I looked under the hood, the coolant leaked out of the overflow tank cap. So I talked to a few buddies and they told me to "burp" the system.

So this morning I let her run without the cap on to get the air out, and filled her with coolant. I took her to the shop and she ran fine, the techs said they smelled a hint of exhaust in the coolant tank, and said I may have early signs of a blown head gasket.

I just put in a new radiator, cap, thermostat, hoses a few weeks ago. The fan runs too. I had a 88 Fox that had a blown headgasket, and I don't have any smoke coming out of the rear and no milky oil. BUT sometimes she has trouble starting. I don't abuse her either. I shift around or under 3000 rpm range. I have never changed a head gasket and know it takes a lot of work. Damn!
