This morning heading to work I was coming around a curve and it was wet and ice out .....boom guard rail in the blink of an eye. I'm just thinking I should have put some 17x9's sooner for more traction instead of those stock narrowed wheels.

The damage didn't get into the radiator, there are no leaks. The frame will have to be straightened in the front from where it smacked the guard rail at 65mph. Thank fully it didn't slide down the door and ding that all up. I'm picking up bumper, fenders, hood etc next Saturday and dropping it off for paint. It should be in the shop getting straightened Next weekend as well.

How'd you fare in the crash? Any injuries?? Sorry about the Monday morning mayhem!!

No injuries, had the trusty seat belt on thankfully. It could have gotten ugly without the seat belt. I just held on to the steering wheel and relaxed to not strain myself on impact. I hit the guard rail twice in a span of about 10 yards. The airbags didn't deploy so I may need to look into that. Wasn't my first rodeo so I wasn't shaken a bit just didn't want to get hit by a semi which wasn't far behind. Probably won't be the last rodeo either.

Doesn't look all that much different from mine but I needed the core support replaced as well.

I may need the core support replaced too...I don't think it can be bent back into shape. Did you need your frame pulled Scott? What's a ball park price range?

Damn man it sucks when you just put like hours of cleaning the headlights and putting the chin spoiler just to have them ruined in one day. Good thing they're cheap too. Glad you weren't hurt tho, I couldn't imagine driving in snow with my fat ass no-grip 315's lol.

Yup...in less than one minute...gone. But hey, this will be a fun project. It's also be an opportunity to get a good paint job done on the front end because the guy I bought it from put the cheapest paint job money could buy. It was starting to get tons of rock chips in the front bumper and hood and it's not like the car is fast. It was just starting to look crazy nice too.

If you were closer, I'd give you my white, stock hood. Shipping would be retarded though..

Thanks man. Yeah, shipping is always crazy. Anyone close to TN that has a spare hood or front bumper pm me lol... The bone yard I'm getting my front end only sells them complete though. Hood fenders and front bumper for $250

Actually now looking at yours I am not sure if it was worse or not. On mine the core support took the blunt of the hit and was pushed back almost into the motor(fan was hitting the pullies). But because of that the inner aprons had little too no damage. The core support on yours looks like it could probably be beat back into place although it would not be as strong. But those aprons look pretty jacked as well.

For mine I dropped the car off with my guy completely stripped(short of the motor) and said he could have it for a few weeks if needed(no longer then a month always set a deadline or else....) so he could work it in around other jobs that needed to be done faster. He showed me a mach 1 with similar damage he did not long ago fully painted out the door for $3700 so I was happy to get mine back unpainted(just weld through primer so I could smooth out the engine bay) almost 3 weeks later for only $1500.

Noooooooooo!

Wait, you were going to put wider tires on for more traction on ice? No... You but narrower tires on for traction on ice. Fat ones will be worse.

Yeah...About 475$ for everything I need. The real cost will be getting that damn front end pulled.

Threads like this make me glad that I keep my cars put away during the winter. If I crashed my truck, I'd just shrug it off.

Tough break man.... I'm glad you're alright and didn't sustain any injuries.

Logically you'd think wider = more area of contact = more traction on ice

But what's the reason for it to be worse? I never understood that...

That sucks to here about the car but I'm glad you're okay!

More surface area touching the ice/snow = bad
Wider tires mean the lbs per square inch are lower = bad

You want the least amount of "tire" touching the ground because it distributes the weight of the vehicle over a smaller surface area.

Weight displacement.

If you have a wider tire your are spreading your weight over a larger area. You have less weight per area. Friction is the normal force (weight) times the friction coeffient (ice has a low friction coefient). So you want a skinnier tire to have more weight per area and more traction. That's why winter tires are skinny. Winter tires have different tread to make it have more traction with ice/snow too. They type of tire and how much tread makes the biggest difference.

Damn you deeplist, beat me to it!
