beautifull day today. There was a car/airplane show locally as well as a beer garden for a humane society benifit tonight that made wish I could still drink so I could take my chic magnet with me. Car started up like crap this morning as usual. I pulled out my meter and checked the TPS sensor as I was told in the other post and it did have a few dead spots and a couple that shorted out. After dickin with it for long enough I must have cleaned the contacts in the sensor as it then fired up, idled perfect and I was off. Stopped at autozone, napa, advanced auto and pep boys to see about a tps sensor and idle air control valve since it was old and would be comming off too. No one had one, advanced is supposed to get it in the morning. So then I go to the show. About a half mile from it I hit a bump and hear a strange dragging noise from under the car. I immediatly pulled over expecting the worse and when I looked under the car to see it was all clear I was confused.... Checked from the back, side and front and could not see anything hanging. I looked down the highway and noticed something shiney about 20 yrds away from me on the shoulder and was shocked to realize it was my filter and the flange that holds it to the maf(I have an anderson power pipe as my intake with a 90mm maf in the fender).... It was now about 2 inches tall with the flange being 1.5" thick.... The flange had some scrapes and the o-ring was gone but otherwise it was still flat/straight where it needed to be, the filter looked like a top hat that was stepped on(tried to pop it out but no go). So went back to the zone for a new filter, then back to ace to get the screws I needed to replace. I was shocked to find 2 of the screws still in the maf holes but it made it easy to find replacements. Went back home, used some silicone to seal up the flange/filter since the o-ring was gone and was sure to use locktight when screwing them all back together. Figured I was done, went to fire it up and the car will fire for about a half a second before it shuts off. I can hear the fuel pump prime both when turning the key and again after the motor shuts down for some reason. If I turn the key on-off 4/5 times to prime the pump a few times it runs for a little longer but still dies. I have a holley 255 lph pump I am getting ready to install as my tuner told me it was running lean in high rpms but I don't have a fuel pressure gauge to see if it is good/bad. any other ideas to check out?

its strange but its almost like the fuel is cut off. It starts fine but then just slowly dies off........ let it sit for and hour and tried again but no dice.

I had an msd one too and it wasnt very old at all. Spent 2 days trying to diagnos what the problem was and slapped the factory one back in to see if it was loosing spark and ended up being it just my opinion!!

well I saved the old coil just in case so that will not be a problem if it is bad. Thinking it over last night I think I might have my maf sensor on backwards. Was on my back, head under the bumper and just reached and grabbed it, didn't pay any attention to which way I put it on..... This is only the 2nd time I have put it all back together, anyone that has used the anderson power pipe knows there is not much room to play with there. This could account for the fact it fires, but once the air really starts moving it shuts off with the shape of the lightning maf.

yep, a 90 mm lighting maf sensor does not like to be put in backwards... That was the 2nd time I have ever put it all back together. Unfortunatly I don't have a lift or jack, thankfully my car is still at stock ride height which means there is exactly 1/2" less space then I need to squeeze my head between the bumper and ground. I find by squinting while pushing real hard I can still get it in, I am sure you guys know what I mean. But once there there is really only enough room for half an arm, and I can only see outta one eye. Putting the rubber boot on the power pipe, tightening it down, then the maf, tighten it down, then the filter. While doing this it is easy to let that little detail of airflow go by.

advanced auto just called and my TPS sensor is in, off to get it and slap that on an see if the remaining problems go away.

oh sorry. Today on the way to the autoparts store it ran perfectly. Idled great didn't have any issues on the way there or the way back. Weather was nice in the 70s though and it has just been intermitten problems that would come and go. I am going to see how it is running tomorrow and swap out the IAC and TPS.

swapped them both out this morning and it is running a 100% better at least on the short drive I took it on through the neighborhood. It had been having more problems at lower rpms(under 2k) and under light acceleration the car would start to surge/buck pretty badly. For the first time in a long time I was able to keep the rpms under 1500 and it ran smooth as silk.

My front tires are toast so I am going to go get a new set today and while they have it up have them put in the new 255lph fuel pump and the adjustable fuel pressure regulator(I still do not have a gauge to adjust it after installing it.
