Re: Disappointing ET 96 Cobra

Thanks for the input guys. In my defense, that challenger (owned by my buddy Daniel) is a speedfactory supercharged unit putting down over 650 rwhp..so I kinda couldn't help that!

Re: Disappointing ET 96 Cobra

Since I'm only going to make a few more passes at the track this winter and because the stance is finally perfect, I think I'm going to stick with my Saleen springs.

On a side note, I just got my results from the dyno runs:

RWHP-258 (first run)
RWTQ- 268 (last run)

All 3 pulls were to 6,000 RPM. 1st and 3rd pull from 4th gear, 2nd pull from 3rd gear. I threw 2 codes during the 1st pull. P1519 IMRC stuck and P0303 Misfire Cylinder 3. Is this on spec for a 15 year old 106,XXX mile car? 75 deg temp, 80% humidity.

Agreed, but he was babying it as it was his first trip to the track as well.. Nonetheless, I'd love to make a pass in it.

I'm curious to know what other STOCK 96-98 Cobras are putting down RWHP/RWTQ..I've searched google to the edge, and seems everyone who posts their dyno runs has at least upgraded exhaust or intake. Any actual figures on STOCK 96-98 Cobras??

Speaking from personal experience the biggest difference you could make to your car is driving practice at the track. How many rpm do you come off the line at, how well was it hooking up? I have a 96 cobra as well and with my all weather 245 tires traction was difficult to find. I also ran low 14's my first visit to the track. All the bolt ons will help, shifter, gear, dr's or slicks, suspension work, a tune possibly, the list goes on. But i think it really comes down to track time, it doesn't matter how much power you're getting to the wheels if you can't get it to hook up and utalize all of it. There are bolt on 96 n/a cobras running 11's. A strong set of axles might be in order, but it can be done if you really drive it

I vote driver mod, i need one too :eek:ccasion14:

It seems I have all the right tools now to prepare for one more trip to the track once the temps cool down later in the year. I guess it turns out what initally seemed a poor first performance wasn't that bad (for being a first timer). My dyno results are also a little encouraging after talking to a few other fellow Cobra owners. It turns out the car is exactly where it should be, maybe even a little healthier than expected for the age and milage. Thanks for all the insight guys, and please continue adding anything else you might have.

why did you stop at 6000rpm on the dyno??? did you ever take care of that high rpm misfire?

your dyno results are right on par with all n/a 4v sheets i've seen, even with bolt ons they dont pick up much, until you bolt on a blower or bottle.

practice will get you 13s......

The tuner said the peak of the power band is at 5800 RPM, so there was no need to go much further past that. As for the misfire, it only did it once on the dyno. Car runs great on the street, so I'm assuming it was a one time deal..maybe caused by the IMRC getting stuck.
