Do I need a new driveshaft?

I have a 1994 v6 rear end, a v6 drive shaft, and a v6 automatic transmission, but my engines a 5.0. I remember reading somewhere where people claimed you needed a new drive shaft when doing a swap, but mine worked fin anyway. My husband is literally on the way to pick up a new 8.8 rear end, will my current 3.8 driveshaft work with it??

ok, you do not need to put a 8.8 in with a 5.0. Some of them came with a 7.5 rear as well. The driveshafts will fit just fine. I bought a aluminum for my stang when my old one went out. I can use it for the 5.0 or the 3.8 it dont matter.

Youre probably right... ...but I want this car to be RELIABLE. This car has 251rwhp and 291 tq.... ...it drove for only a few months before the t-lock in the 7.5 went. (and I never did any burnouts just because I was afraid of this.)

Yeah it is more reliable and can hold up to more rwhp and tq. I never understood why ford mixed some 5.0 with the 7.5 and 8.8 rear. I would of rather put the bigger rear in and left it.

I am most likely going to upgrade mine to that after sometime too. I had spidered my factory rear in the 7.5 last october doing a burnout. Never could accomplish that with the stock sixxer clutch, but I installed a 03 cobra clutch and it managed to kill the rear gears and stock drive shaft all at once. I lemped it home 25 miles with it slipping but atleast it was moving.

I dont understand this either... ...source? Not saying that I dont believe you. Its just that Im having a real tough time seeing ford actually do this... ...and NOT having to recall them all later. How do I know that those v8s that had them werent just replaced with them. Think about it, there are a lot of crooked and/or clueless mechnics out there. Also how do we not know that a previous owner didnt do the swap themself since they were going to sell/trade in the car anyway and stripped it for a bigger profit.

Thats what happened to mine. It was loud, but still drove. Apparently it still worked, but the t-lock needed to be rebuild because it was now open and didnt control both wheels

My source is a ford mechanic that worked there during the time our cars were built and left to work at dodge around january of this year. also had a sales man from the time say the 8.8 was a optional listing. ill try to find more info when i get home. cant look up stuff on the cell to well.

Sounds like it may of been available to the foxbodies, but no confirmation on 94+. Perhaps ford did this on many GTs because back then they made anywhere from 140-205hp. And if you modified it to make more, you voided its warranty or it had pasted the warranty time/mileage limit, which is why there was no recall.

I have never, in my life, seen an original V8 car without an 8.8 rear axle.

I'd never have a 7.5 axle backing up a V8 car that I planned to drive for any length of time.

Well, technically Paul is right. Hes never seen one, and would never drive one.

I guess if that era of foxes are putting out 90s v6 HP, then I dont see an issue, and can see ford doing it... ...but as for SN-95 5.0s, I dont believe they came with them. In fact, every time I mention that I have/had one, people tend to question me on why on earth I did.

Gotcha..I took your statement the wrong way..haha.

I agree a 7.5" is just :tard: with the torque of a V8. Stock vs stock the 8.8" is 35% stronger then the 7.5"
