does my harmonic balancer need replacing?

no dealership has the ford HB in stock. i need to fix my car this weekend. so its looking like dorman is the way im gonna go.
otherwise rock auto has em for a few bucks less than autozone.
is there only one way to mount the HB when i put it on?

No, just the only easy way. Otherwise you have to fix the rotating assembly in place somehow in order to prevent it from turning when tightening/loosening the bolt.

Yeah, just do a search. It's been covered pretty thoroughly.

with a 5sp you can get some one to put a flat head in the flywheel teeth or in a auto( flex plate and hold it still or they have a specific holder for it. You can get it out that way.

i used a huge pair of channel lock pliers to hold the HB. and a 1/2 drive 30" long breaker bar. I've also seen the screwdriver/prybar trick too. It is a stardard rotation bolt (righty tighty/ lefty loosey)
