Drag Radial Question

So i bought a pair of 99 cobra wheels with 245/45 555R drag radials on them for $100. Tires have plenty of life left in them. Right now i have my heavy 10.5 wide cobra r's on with pretty worn dry rotting 315's on. i am wanting to hit the track soon to get a few runs in, would you guys think the skinnier 245/45 dr's will be better to run? thinkin of maybe selling the 245's and picking up a set of 275s for em if the 245s wont be wide enough.

just gettin into drag racing some and first time buyin/running drag radials

the 555r are ok, but you should look into ET streets, or full slicks if you are serious about hooking.

still have stock axles in the rear so not looking to break anything. plus its just a bolt on car pretty much with 373s and upper and lower intake. Just wanted to see what yall thought would be best to run for a night at the track.

ehh, try it, see what happens. they will hook much better than your 315s, guaranteed. just remember a 555r likes a good long hot burnout (we know you know how to do those) before they will really bite

well, you didnt say what 315s you were running so there is no way to tell if the 555r will be better or worse, but if they are sumitumo's or anything similar the nitto's will work better. they usually like 22-25psi and a GOOD second gear burnout. dont dry hop after the burnout just stage and go.

Drag radials are alright, the 555r's are more of a street tire with a little "stickier" compound. I have seen as low as a 1.54 60ft on thee 555r's and thats crazy. Drag radials (i will say it again) are harder on your drivetrain then slicks. If you want a good Drag Radial get a Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial. If you want a DOT slick ET Streets, and if you want a slick either Hoosier or MT ET slicks work well.

The 245's will be fine, just get them hot and run em out the back door.

my 555Rs definitely did a lot better with a second gear burn out, make sure to get some good smoke off them.

I think the 555R's should work out pretty good for you...just get a feel for it. You may have to ride the clutch out a bit so they don't spin (just don't over do it on the clutch LOL).

Agreed, i've ran both and those 555r's take a big burnout to get sticky. I never had much luck with them.

With my Mickeys, I don't even need to make smoke to get em to stick.

yeah im thinking of looking getting a set of et streets for the 2 99 cobra wheels when these 555Rs are worn out. for $100 i couldnt pass it up. i dont make all the power you guys are but its got enought to spin the tires

I made pretty low power last year and NEVER spon my 8.5" slicks last year even with no burnout

Nitto 555R - snapped the driver side axle, bent the pass axle.

Mickey T. ET Street Radials - Blew the rear stripping the spider gears and and bent the diff. housing. LOL
