I have the opportunity to test out 2 meters in the past few months. The first dyno test was done w/ the DBX 97MM Mass air meter back on May 2ed. This Saturday Aug 8th I'll be going back for a re tune on the dyno but with a PMAS 95MM Velocity mass air meter. Same dyno, no other new mods at all.

Shortly after the May dyno tune ( Put down 333RWHP ) the DBX meter went bad on me. Took 6 weeks of chasing problems to finally figure out that it was the meter.

The PMAS 95MM Velocity meter came from Brown Santa today. I hooked it up and took the car out for a spin and the seat of the pants meter went off the chart!!! I cant belive how hard it pulled, I could not keep the rear tires planted w/ the Nitto DR's. I dont think the Cobra has ever pulled this hard before.

Conclusion: I think the DBX meter was going bad for quite awhile, even for the dyno tune so I dont think the 333 RWHP truly represents what the car has w/ the mods b/c it pulled like a raped ape tonight. It will be interesting to see the outcome this Saturday but I'll be highly surprised if it does not pull more this time around.

It was $299 through atomic performance, free shipping.

No word yet from DBX. I was going to call them today but have decided to wait until after the dyno results so I will either have proof that A. The meter was going bad even before then or B. That PMAS just makes a better meter.

This may not be a "fair" test if the meter was going bad before the tune but we'll see.

why not run a 90mm LMaf for $85?

Because I dont want to. It had a 90MM LMAF on it before and it idled like crap.

Notice the price difference...notice that Im much more happy w/ the PMAS Meter.....

Maybe you had a bad MAF, tons of people including myself run LMAF's and their cars idle just fine. I got mine new in box for $20 to my door and it's capable of supporting pretty big power, not to mention it's easy to tune and extremely reliable. Just because you bought a more expensive MAF doesn't mean it's a better part, 90mm LMAF ftw!

The LMAF is limited with power. No way around it.

The velocity meter flows more, supports a hell of a lot more power and can support up to 160lb injectors.

wtf is limited with power? and everything else you said is pretty much irrelevant as a LMAF would work just fine for Venom's setup.

The LMAF is limited on the amount of power it will support.

It will peg after about 450-475HP

i know for a fact that it takes ALOT more then 450-475hp to peg a LMAF. Im running my stock sensor in a C&L housing and STILL have yet to peg it.

want proof? gimmie a few days to wait for my netbook to come in and i'll get you some data graphs showing the kind of air my car flows at high RPM

a lmaf will peg anywhere from 375-475. blow through setups lose 20% headroom... its a fact. sure you can add a piggyback device like a mafia to get more but that is a bandaid

speed density > maf :p

I don't know enough about the LMAF to have an opinion on this, but does anyone have the transfer tables to back up the 475 hp "pegged meter" claim?

i don't have any maf stuff on my computer anymore since i ditched mass air all together a long time ago. a quick search on the corral or hardcore5.0 will show the same as i have stated or a quick email to bob kurgan / don lasota will provide the same.
